Can a 'Standard Exercise' Under USPSA rules have only one string? 6.1.1 states "...MAY consist of more...". US 6.1.2 states "...consisting of MORE than one...". So would a Standard Exercise submitted for a Sanctioned/Tournament match consisting of only one 24 round string be approved as long as it met all the other criteria? I'm going to 'guess' Yes under the first clause, but No under the second. I don't want to 'guess' I want to 'know'. Can you help? TIA, Joe

Louisville Practical Shooter's Association in conjunction with Silver Creek Practical Shooter's would like to invite you to attend a USPSA Level 1 Range Officer Course. Click the link for more information. http://www.louisvillepracticalshooters.com/lpsa_info_RO.html Thanks, Joe

Flex-You're correct about moving the decimal point, it works for L10 anyway. Just checked and my percentage for the above performance is 59.328. Man, I am 'this close'. Though my actual average is right at 50. Got till Nov to see what happens. I would sure like to start out 2003 in 'B'. Joe

Actually the answer to the first question is 'maybe'. Feds don't require any licensing other than the initial background check paperwork when you first purchase the gun from a dealer. They are trying to 'close the gunshow loophole' though. That would require every sale to go thru the background check. As of now there is no Fed law preventing the private sale (no paperwork whatsoever) from one person to another, unless a State law covers it. However there are several states, Illinois for one, that requires a FOID, firearm owners indentification card. These usually have expiration dates and are sometimes required for the purchase of ammo also. The second question I'm not sure of. Not sure if the NYC 'Sullivan' law requires this or not. I do know that the 'permit' isn't transferable and IIRC the were going door to door confiscating them, especially when the owner died. This was happening just a year or so ago. I don't know the answer to your last question. I've only been 'abroad' courtesy of the USArmy. When I was armed it was a chartered flight if commercial. Or a 'grand' C130 if not. The Founding Fathers actually saw States as sovereign w/little interference from the Feds. That lasted until around 1860. Now the Feds threaten to cut-off 'funds', ie taxes they 'give' back after robbing you at gunpoint, if the States don't comply with their demands. For instance the National Highway Safety Commission or the Environmental Protection Agency. I'm sure someone is looking into the 'gun' problem. HTH, Joe

I did a recoil spring change and nearly halved my splits from .3 to .17. Recently I've had on more than one occasion my time show splits of .07 during a practice and all my targets have hits. I don't look at a timer during a match. I'm using a CED 6000 outdoors away from any other gunfire. It feels as though I'm actually doing it that fast especially after I experience trigger freeze and relax. So anyway what I want to know is am I doing this, or dreaming then lieing about it or is it some kind of anomaly? Oh and my practice parter was running the timer so he's seen them too. One thing I've learned here is that there are no limits or goals, just 'doing'. I just don't want to lie or be fooled in the process. Guess I should have said it's an L10 Commander. Thanks, Joe (Edited by Joe at 12:00 am on July 7, 2002)

Well count me as the newest member of the club. Cost me high HF in L10 at our last practice match. Getting complacent I guess. I always start with a full case, 100 rounds, of ammo and load all 5 mags then check the case. It just looked different for some reason. Didn't pay much attention. I was using a different case and just thought that was it. I usually double check all the mags too. I didn't this time. Got to the line, load and make ready, buzzer sounds all 8 popper go down one shot each. Reach for the reload and what do I pull out, an 'empty' mag. Tossed it and grabbed another. I'm usually meticulous about my ammo/mags. I always check and top them off after I'm finished. Going to ensure it doesn't happen again. Joe

Quote: from Tory Schmeiser on 12:09 pm on June 29, 2002 Spent some time picking the brain of my local "Yoda". (Dave Bridgman) We basically resolved my issue. So what did you have to do to correct the problem? Joe

Unless you trim all of your cases to the same length the crimp die will slightly crush the ones that are longer that the one you used to set the die up with. Rest assured out of all the cases, you picked to set it up with, you chose the 'shortest' in the pile. If you have a spot for a 4th die get a Lee factory crimp die and your trouble will disappear. It re-sizes and crimps thus removing the slight 'crush'. HTH, Joe

If your looking for a cheap 'hot' 9mm factory round you can't beat the Olympic 124gr Nato stuff. Goes 1250 ave out of my Glock 17. http://www.sportsmansguide.com has it for around $100/1000 plus shipping of course. HTH, Joe

How about this. Our club shot Sat and the results were just posted. But...Mine are from the 2nd shoot (reshoot) not the main division, L10, that I shoot. LOL. The Pres and VP's are screwed up too. Guess it will get straighted out now. In reality it is probably our own fault. I don't believe we have a suitable way to designate which is which. Not to mention the way the scoring software works. We have a board meeting tonight. Guess I'll bring it up as new business. But I sure would have like to of had my L10 scores. Joe

I know what you mean. A club I shot at 2 Sunday's back just posted the results last night!!! I realize it is quite a job but geez! Joe

Shot this a couple of weeks ago. It was the first stage I fired of the match. So this was 'cold'. L10/Major/Commander: 54 pts, 6.96 sec, 7.7586 hf. This is the best classifier I have shot so far. I took 3rd in this stage and 3rd overall, 5 stages total w/13 shooters. Sorry, know this isn't the 'bragging' forum but... Joe (Edited by Joe at 11:02 pm on June 19, 2002)

Guess I should of said what I 'actually' do. Load cases of the same headstamp in .2gr increments at whatever oal I choose. Fire these and whichever is 'best', load more test rounds at .1 above and .1 below. Pick the best of the three and experiment w/OAL. For competition load development it is chrono for pf using the same headstamp then changing OAL in increments. I then chrono that load using the other cases I have. Just what 'accuracy' goals do we have for IPSC/USPSA/IDPA? 3 to 5 inches at 50 yards will put you on an 8 inch plate if you do your part. Is that 'good' enough? Joe
-
The sum of all parts equals accuracy. In theory anyway. Another words everything you use i.e. cases, bullets, primers and powder should be as identical as possible. Except in the case of primers this is determined by weighing each individual component. Weigh each case after it has been trimmed to the lenght desired. Sort into lots that give you the least deviations from the average. Do the same with your bullets, except the trimming of course. Weighing each powder charge individually load 10-20 each in .1 grain increments. Seat and crimp these at the min overall length. Fire these at your test distance and determine if any one meets your requirements almost. The one that 'almost' does should be loaded for testing in 10-20 round lots in increments of +.002" OAL, example x.xx2, x.xx4... Ensure that you never seat the bullet so long that it contacts the rifling. Then test fire these again. You should be 'there'. The 'short course' for IPSC/USPSA/IDPA would be to use a 'known' load that makes your pf and is somewhat accurate and tweek it. Use the same headstamp cases and, even better, from the same lot. Trim them to equal length. Check your powder charge weight frequently. Seat 10-20 each at the minumum length that will function. Do the same in increments to the longest OAL that will function. Hopefully one of these will be 'there'. Check that one over the chrono to insure it still meets pf. HTH, Joe

How did you find this site?
Joe replied to Jon Merricks's topic in Miscellaneous Topics That Do Not Fit in Any Other Forum
A thread about recoil springs at 1911.com had a link to a thread here about recoil springs. Since then I've shared it with everyone I shoot with or I know that shoots. Thanks for the great site and forums. Joe -
Thanks for the great comments Bill. Glad you found the problem with your gun. I forgot to mention the Sunday Match hosted by Hidden Hills. Shame on me. I say that because with out them we wouldn't be outdoors. I don't have the exact directions but I can certainly obtain them and have them available for whomever may need them. It's a few miles East of Ceasar's Casino if that helps. And I think I spelled Ceasars wrong. Thanks again. Joe

Just wanted to invite everyone to our Saturday Matches. We are a Kentucky Club (KY13) but we shoot these matches in Indiana. We appreciate Hidden Hills Practical Shooters for the use of their range. We just completed our second match and had around 40 shooters at the 10am start and 7 to 10 at the 2pm. Doughnuts and drinks are provided. We've had shooters from as far away as Dayton, OH. Don't forget we have an indoor shoot at Ray's Indoor Range every Tuesday night at 7pm. Click the link in my signature for more info or feel free to email me with any questions. Hope to see you soon! I had the same thing happen to me just last week. I have a PACT I. I got some crazy readings of 265 fps for loads that should have been around 700+ and then I got those mysterious 1100fps readings too. I was in bright sunlight with it nearly overhead. I moved the chrono about 45° to the right and that solved the problem. I'm not sure why it happened but I'd guess the shadow was beating the bullet over one of the screens and vice versa. The next time I get the first couple of funny readings I'm just going to try and move the chrono. Joe

Anyone tried these? How are they 'smoke' wise? Leading? I'm interested in .45 but your experience/opinion of any would be fine. TIA, Joe
