  1. HELP!!!!! Ok here is the short and dirty version...my new (less the a year old) STI Calif Edge exploded during a training session. The barrel explded at the ejection port. When i called the Gunsmith who sold me the gun...they were less then concerned. ( Wait till all of my friends cancel the orders they placed. ) Now this explosion was not the resualt of a squib. since I was doing one shot draws I know this, nor was it a high power charged round. I contacted STI and they told me to send it to them but Im faced with the concern of if: A) this was a defect the barrel will be destroyed when they "take " my gun apart. any proof in the above mentioned situation will be lost. Should I need it for a legal case. Okay guys!!! Any suggestions??? Ummm by the way.... I am fine..eyes where covered but the shrapnal was a bit on the painfull side...not to mention the powder burn on my hands
  2. Ok... it must be said. I can deal with the talking...( I chalk it up to a good focus tool...block it out and Im working on my focus.) HOWEVER.... My club has a shooter who feels it is a requirement to use the F word to describe every detail of the course. A situation I have tried to correct by talking to him. I guess my gripe isnt the talking so much as the words being said. By the way... I took my daughter to a match that the above mentioned shooter was at. And after the first foul word fell from his lips...my non- shooter daughter walked over (she is 14 by the way) and asked him to please "refrain from useing that type of languge around her." She actually got a standing ovation from several other shooters.
  3. Well... it basically cam down to two things... A) turning the case gauge about and useing it by dropping th primers in first. ( as was mentioned by our fellow shooter 3 quarter) And the second problem, which I didnt mention was a failure to feed problem...ended up being a lenght issue. (No comment needed from the peanut gallery) Tory "Doc" Schmeiser
  4. Well I started with 200gr from Bear creek And am now trying a diet of 220 from West Coast Bullets. Powder is Titegroup by hodge...and Ingnition is WSR primers. Im a taurus who is in to cooking needlepoint and ...oops wrong forum... Tory
  5. Well guys thanks for all the ideas on my little "problem". Spent some time picking the brain of my local "Yoda". (Dave Bridgman) We basically resolved my issue. now Im a loading fool. (of course now Im doing the whole recipe that I like thing.) So far I seem rather happy with 220 bullets. ok! ok! I like the soft shooting ones. Ok well I gotta go... Gotta go shoot. Tory
  6. Ok I got the new 650 press all put together..and am now loading my .40 with 4.2 of titegroup set off by WSP primers...the bullet is 200 gr. AOL is 1.15 Now someone explain to me why my brass will fit in a case gauge fine after it has cleared the first stage of the press but by the time it finishes the whole series of stages it wil no longer sit flush in the case gauge....hmmm anyone, anyone, Bueller...Bueller????? 7. What I like??? Those of you that make this forum what it is. Brian: Who shares all he knows with those of us so hungry we would eat the sand for knowledge about this sport. Flex: Who besides a ton of info always passes on a funny little note here and there. DT: Who besides haveing great taste in a comic book hero (DD)also passes on his know how to those of us that dont have much yet. And to everyone else who helps out/chimes in to give us something to think about and things to laugh at. I visit this page everyday. (starving actors have lots of time to read ...and dry fire) And I learn something from someone on every trip. Thanks to you all. This is what I like. Tory
  8. San Diego California checking in.. Started shooting small bore rifles in 1985...then in 1989 started shooting MP5's via my rich Uncle Sam. Walked away from guns in 1998. And 6 months ago was given a spirtiual awaking at my "first" IPSC match as a spectator... My goal is a simple one....I want to shoot agianst "TGO". Dont care about winning...just want the honor of standing next to him and shooting....of course if I happen to win.....(Ok nap time is over)
  9. Well the way I see it... Im a rare bird in in the acting biz...Im one of the few who will actually use a gun on film.....and DEMEAND they show a reload on film. Not to mention I actually like guns.
  10. The late Jack Lemmon once sat in front of a group of acting students and was talking about his role in the film " Mr. Roberts". Now follow this linking of acting and shooting... He said on a given scene (stage) he had mapped out exactly what he was going to do. (Or in our case how to shoot it.) Everytime he got his cue he would follow his plan...and evertime the Director said ..."Jack do less...give me a little less"...after a dozen takes of this Jack Lemmon gets flustered and looks at the Director and says... "If I do less I wont be doing anything but reading.(shooting)" "EXACTLY!" was the directors reply. Ok maybe it seemed better in my head at 3am as I was reading BE's book...as I was working my crummy job because Im an actor who needs to pay for his shooting habit.
  11. Anything by Dan Millman and David Morrell
  12. In no order: Amazing Grace and Chuck (Heart tugger) Platoon Windtalkers (out in june 2002) Navy SEALs (great CQB scene on film) The Professional The Big Blue Bravo Two Zero (BBC film....very accurate to Andy's book) BackDraft Apollo 13 Cast Away T2 (T3 is now currently in production) Star Wars Quigley Down Under (great movie starring a rifle and co- starring Tom Selleck) Smokey and the Bandit Hooper My Life Schindlers List Ronin The Final Option (BBC film about the SAS) Thats most of the ones off the top of my head...of course I will have about a million more after I finish this post.
  13. I would love to see a gun rag (AH comes to mind)have a colum with the focus on the new competative shooter. I mean start bare roots..discuss gun selection, for whatever the sport is, reloading info, training. And maybe even go so far as to kep it going till we see the writer attend his first match. One thing....no B.S. endorsement....I dont want to read about someone who gets a new full race gun given to them by a top smith so the smith gets some review time. An honest, non-smoke blowing colum.
