Have you been running that setup for a while?   That could be an interesting combination for at least one mag, as long as it proves reliable.

I’ve been using this setup for the last 4 weeks during matches and practice and had zero issues. It’s nice to not sweat expensive basepads. I hope this helps!

  2. MBX makes a spring and follower set that increases factory 21 round mags to 23 rounds using the factory basepads. I’m using this setup and like it a lot. If you change to Taran or Henning basepads possibly 24 rounds.

  3. For the money, factory 21 rounders is totally the way to go. With the 17 rounders with, adding the base pads you run the risk of over inserting them and bending the ejector. 21 rounders…not so much.

Are the 21 round mags that come with the P320Max Carry Optics legal?  Can anyone confirm their length?  If they are legal, can extended base pads be added and still keep them legal?

    Thanks.

In theory, the 21 round factory mags can and should fit the gauge. However, there are numerous examples of them not fitting the gauge. So the answer is “yes” but confirm. There are numerous aftermarket manufacturers that make basepads that 1) Add capacity and 2) Fit the gauge. Additionally, if your factory basepads don’t fit, they can easily be modified to make them fit. Also…the new list of manufacturers that sell spring and follower kits that are designed for use with the factory tubes and basepads make it even easier and WAY CHEAPER!

  5. Just got a Prodigy DS and the chamber is pretty tight. Won’t chamber many of my reloads that feed in everything else I have. Clymer or Manson from Brownells? Suggestions? All of my reloads pass the Wilson and Lyman gauges. Recommendations or advice appreciated!

The regular STI magwell works ok if you take the ribs down a bit on the sides of the Prodigy grip.  Simple filing or sanding or scraping work

I modify Dawson ICE magwells to fit, and while it's a simple cut, it's also a CNC cut unless you are good with a mill and rotary table or have mad Dremel sanding drum skills.  The problem there is the 'toe' of the Prodigy grip is blunter top to bottom than the STI and any magwell that hooks over the toe won't fit.  Probably with the right size rat-tail file or Dremel drum you could knock the top of the Prodigy grip toe down to fit as well.

Here's the Prodigy grip showing how it won't fit all the way into a Dawson Ice.

This is it on a STI grip.

@shredThanks brother! That’s exactly what I needed to know. I figured it was just the side “ribs” on the prodigy grip that needed to be reduced/removed. Not that simple, I guess. I think I’ll just go with the EGW for now. Can’t thank you enough!

  7. Anyone modify the Prodigy grip to accept magwells made for the STI grip? I know the Dawson tactical magwell fits, and that EGW makes one specifically for it. But others? I’ve got a box of Dawson ICE, SVI, and others. Would love to use one of them instead of buying yet another. Any help appreciated!

How are you getting 24 in the mag? Are you using stock springs and followers?

Using stock springs and followers. I also always load using an Uplula and do the “load 4-5, flex them with the Uplula, load a few more” and repeat until I have 24 rounds. The 24th round is a bit tight in new mags, but they usually “break in” after a few matches. I have no problem reloading on the clock with a full 24-round mag. Hope you have better luck with yours.

Pretty sure there are a couple options to get 24+1 in current CO guns, so your 23+1 is a big YES it's down a round.

But I agree that wont matter 99% of the time.

All of my MBX 140s hold 24 rounds +1 in the chamber. I hadn’t heard of people NOT getting 24 in a few years…YMMV

  10. Anyone use CHPWS for their 1911/2011 optic milling service with the “cross-mount” plate system? I’ve got an STI 9mm I’m thinking of setting up for LO if it becomes provisional. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  11. I’ve Got xxl size hands AND left handed. My thumb blocks spent Brass ejection occasionally along with dragging on slide. Double-Tap, Phoenix Trinity, Limcat, Swenson, and others make “shielded” thumb safeties. This makes a huge difference and is legal in all divisions that allow single-action pistols.

  12. Was just killing time catching up on the forum and wanted to add my case head failure in my 320 X5 Legion. Didn’t do any damage, as far as I can tell and it happened on the last shot fired of a COF! I love my X5 and am not dog-piling on Sigs. But it’s the first case head failure I’ve had in 15 years of reloading and shooting USPSA. Just adding data for the “hive-mind”. Merry Christmas.

  13. I’ve been shooting and dry-fire practicing with this gun for about 9 months. Love it. However, last night while dry-fire practicing, I racked the slide after inserting one of my practice mags and noticed a pronounced drag on the slide. I opened the slide and noticed the ejector is now bent upward and dragging on the bottom of the slide. I’ve been shooting and cleaning and inspecting this thing and had no problems until now. Any advice? Since it’s part of the FCU…am I screwed?
