What kind of 200gr projectile? That’ll make quite difference. If they’re some sort of moly-coat you’re probably fine. If they’re Montana Gold or other hard-assed jacketed bullet...it might be risky. YMMV

Can’t wait to see the various grip panels! Thanks for posting!

EGW and Ed Brown make caliber specific for .40 and are very high quality. FWIW

I can’t recommend Bruce and Primary Machine highly enough! Great work, no nonsense, and one of the most experienced guys in doing this particular machining job. He’s a regular here too. Hope that helps.

You might also look into getting a mag release with a higher shelf. Dawson used to make one, maybe still does. It positions the magazine slightly higher in the frame and allows the bullet to impact higher on the feed ramp.

Do 40 cal Single stacks with 10 loaded in the mags run out of the box?
That’s the drawback...depends on gun, mags, and ammo. It can but....

I’ve noticed over years of shooting .45, .40, and 9mm in SS Division that .40 loaded to the same PF and bullet weight as .45 feels slightly less recoil when slow firing off the timer. When the buzzer goes off though....it’s all the same. From a reloading component perspective though...40 all day long over .45! However, from a minor scoring perspective, 9mm is easier to get reliable feeding from now that there’s so many good manufacturers of 10-round mags.
If you’re going to shoot both Major and Minor...get a .40 and 9mm pistols and take them to the match and actually walk the stages. I’ve never seen a good enough printed stage diagram that actually let you make an informed decision about which PF to shoot. It’s only when you’re actually on the ground looking at the stage layout that you can make the call as to which gun to use.
Finally, the few hotrod SS MINOR guys that I’ve watched shoot have generally stuck with Minor all the time and just run the stages like its Production Division. Most of the time at level 1 and 2 matches that aren’t Single Stack focused....they win! I always look at the scores between SS and Production at those matches and it generally looks like the top Production shooters finish a good bit higher than the highest Major PF Single Stack Shooters. As a result, I’ve decided to just stick with 9mm in SS and try to run and compare myself to the best Production Shooters I know. Of course....ymmv!

I can’t speak for those two brands, but I had an SV Aluminum magwell that I used and reload practiced on for years and thousands of reps and never came close to wearing it out. It was ugly and gnarly but nothing that would hinder a reload. YMMV

Interested in this too...

Bruce from Primary Machine could Mill your slide for sights and the optic. He did an awesome job on my Open Pistol.

Primary Machine did an Open gun slide for my Vortex Viper and the work was fantastic!

One more vote for Wilson 10mm mags. Mine run great in my Trojan loaded at 1.185” COAL. Best part is that when the mags start sticking or get dented, I send them in and Wilson repairs or replaces them for free. Lifetime no BS warranty!

GX Holsters with the flip up lock-in lever is a great option too!

Though the topic has been beaten to death, I’d point out that the fitting issue has more to do with frame variations than grip dimensions. The frame ‘raceways’ on STI pistols has varied TREMENDOUSLY over the last few years. I’ve got 7 different STI frames of different vintages and each one of the Cheely and PT EVO grips I’ve fitted to them has been consistent in their dimensions but the frames have all been different. If you ever decide to have a gun built, try to decide on the grip first, then buy that companies frame...way less fitting usually.
YMMV

I’d take a look at GX Products LLC holsters. It’s a new company by a local Norther KY shooter and he does double layer Kydex holsters that are fantastic! Can’t recommend his holsters highly enough! Hope that helps!

They’re both great. Only real difference I’ve noticed is the tuning-fork ring with every shot you get with the Koenig! Also, I assume Doug gets some small consideration for the use of his name on the hammer. That might explain the price difference?

I zero both irons and red dots at 25 yards for 3-4” groups. Then shoot at my plate rack at 40 yards. Always hold for center of plates and never miss. Seems to consistently work on all my pistols.

I’m not sure if you’re going slide or frame mounted. Slide mounted, my Open gun killed 3 RTS2s in less than 1000 rounds. CMore repaired or replaced them, but I gave up on them. Not saying they’re no good optics...just not for slide mounted 9Major Open guns...YMMV

Yep, I’ve owned 6 different 2011s in .40 and never had one that wouldn’t run factory ammo.
-
A well built 2011 with tuned magazines should reliably run quality factory ammo with the proper recoil springs. Most factory .40 is pretty comfortably Major Power factor too. So, so long as you tell Adam or anyone else that you might consider having build you a gun, you should be fine!

I set up a Gen5 G34 for CO also. Ejection always bothered me. Cases ejected but wouldn’t make it much further than my feet. Only thing that fixed it was an Apex Gen3 extractor. Now a good 5-6 feet to 4:00
I have no problems with ejection...quite the opposite! My cases land 7-10 feet away. My load is 4.4gr of N320 and 124gr Precision Delta RN FMJ. That load chronos consistently to 133-135pf. Maybe the guys with ejection issues are using too light of a bullet? Dunno. I used to prefer 147gr loads but in 9MM the 124gr loads seems to be the sweet spot for me. YMMV

Same here. Emailed and no response. Called and got a person. Twice for two different RTS2s.

What do you think? What should I be paying?
Thanks,
C.
A DYI job with a new “semi dropin” set of parts should be $150-ish. That assumes you’re read-up enough to do it yourself. An honest smith using new parts should charge $250-300.

Quick question, is it an SV? I’ve got theories.
