euxx
I thought it might be a good idea to share some hardware deals. Today Amazon is discounting various SD cards up to 69%: http://www.androidcentral.com/sonys-memory-products-are-discounted-much-69-amazon

Mark R
Wal-Mart had Nook Simple Touches for $45. I picked up two more for backup/future use. Check your local Wally world, they might have some.

euxx
Amazon Fire HD 7, 7" HD Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - $79 (today only) http://www.amazon.com/Fire-HD-Display-Wi-Fi-GB/dp/B00IKPYKWG?tag=androidcentralb-20&m1k=d_ac Despite issues with PS 1.2.26 app, those are still decent tablets for PS. We resolved issues found in earlier version of PS, so 1.2.27 should be good to use on those devices. Also, if anyone is interested to experiment, it also would be a good option to replace Amazon's software with CyanogenMod...
euxx
Few interesting news from Amazon. Amazon announced Fire OS 5, (i.e. their own Android 5 based OS) for Kindle HD devices: https://developer.amazon.com/appsandservices/community/post/Tx2EQ2T7R75R810/Announcing-the-Fire-OS-5-Developer-Preview Additionally there is a $50 off promotion for registered developers (registration is free) on Kindle HD devices (up to two units). This offer is only valid between 6/18/2015 and 8/31/2015 (inclusive, to 11:59PM Pacific). See above link for more details. PS: though it would be beneficial to get a rooting package for Kindle HDs and run a more stock-like Android with Google Play support, instead of content-driven Amazon market. euxx
Another deal on SanDisk MicroSD cards at Amazon. $10.99 for 32Gb: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Adapter-SDSQUNC-032G-GN6MA-Newest-Version/dp/B010Q57T02/ Also, there is a rumor of Amazon releasing $50 6" tablet later this year. It won't be a sun-friendly device with e-ink display and maybe a tad small, but rumored price tag is pretty sweet: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/09/08/rumor-wsj-amazon-is-set-to-release-a-cheap-6-inch-50-tablet-in-time-for-the-holidays/
wgnoyes
I heard that too about a $50 6" amazon something-or-other. Didn't know if it was another of their non-rootable dedicated readers or if it were an actual android-based device. 32gb on a microsd card is kind of overkill for practiscore considerations, but for $11, overkill works very well! Oh! And not just 32gb, but 32gb Class(10)! VERY fast, and a deal even at the regular price of $14.95! Edited September 9, 2015 by wgnoyes

wgnoyes
Huh! Looks like you can do something with it. At 1024x600 resolution, will PS deal with that screen size okay? (I'm guessing "yes", aren't the nooks 800x600?) Edited September 17, 2015 by wgnoyes
jdphotoguy
I preordered one of the new Amazon Fire 7" tablets. Going to try it with Practiscore. If it works, great, we can start to replace those annoying Nooks and if not, $50 for a tablet I can use for email, surfing and the like is worth it. wgnoyes
Yeah, for $50 how bad can it be? At worst, you could use it for indoor clubs.

BJinPass
The new Amazon Fire 7" tablet will be on sale at both Amazon and Best Buy for $34.99 on Black Friday. This is by far the best deal on an Android (although not stock) tablet that can download Practiscore for the app store, without the issues associated with the venerable Nook. No rooting is required. While I haven't yet had the chance to test this exact device outdoors, my club has used several previous generation Fire tablets for almost a year now and they are universally liked better than the Nook. I did a detailed review of the earlier tablet here. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=207069 For $35, it's hard to go wrong. And, if you don't really like it, then you can return them.
whbecker
I got a Kindle Fire for $35 on Black Friday and we used it today at our monthy USPSA match. It was an outdoor match on a cloudy day and it worked very well. Easy to see and the color and speed was a nice improvement over our Nooks. Also, no rooting. Installs from the the Amazon app store. We use Dropbox to move match results to a PC and that works fine also. You do have to "sideload" Dropbox, but the apk file is available on their website. I'm anxious see how much of an issue a bright sunny day will be. I hope Amazon does another $35 sale.
jdphotoguy
Picked up 6 at the $35 price, should be here after Christmas. Now we are looking for a decent rugged case for them that doesn't cost $30+

Bamboo
Not really a computer gear head, but this morning had an email from amazon and the Fire 7 is on sale for $19.99 each with a promo code. I tried to buy two, but the promo is only good for $30 off one. Good for today only. Edited January 25, 2016 by Bamboo
