Got My Stage-win Award.....

Recommended Posts

At Limited nationals, they announced that Stage-Win awards were lost in the shuffle, but would be mailed out asap.

I, as I assume did other shooters, recieved an envelope in the mail yesterday that I first thought might have been a photo. I was suprised to see that it was a laminated piece of paper spit out from a color printer stating that I won a stage. This was my stage win trophy......?

I'm disappointed, but I know there is probably a good reason. I can't imagine these pieces of printer paper would have been awarded at the actual ceremony.

I'm curious about Open wins now....

I may sound a little ungrateful, and if I offend anyone, I'm sorry.

They handed out big chunks of wood for stage wins (Open, Ltd, Open Lady, Ltd Lady, Open Jr and Ltd Jr, I believe) at the RGN's last year... maybe the budget ax got to 'em this year. I wouldn't be surprised.. 100+ plaques can add up fast.

Personally I'd like to see something nicer than a laminated sheet, but less than the huge things they gave out last year

That was it. Just a laminated piece of paper with the stage's artwork (well, since none of the stages HAD artwork, it was a replica of the stage sign and number...)

The top 16 awards were pretty neat, about 1:4 scale wooden targets.

All the other awards were just screen printed wood...MV said that between the Limited and Open Nationals, they lost $40k. I'd MUCH rather have a cheezy award and a deep prize table than a nice award and a short table.

And the prize table was deep...Liota hit 250 or so at both the Limited and Open, and still ended up with a Schumann barrel and a JP AR15 trigger set.

Please don't even bring up the limited prize table, and the fact they started much earlier than the published time. I missed out big time showing up 20 minutes earlier than the published time, 120 spots :( When a guy I knew who finished below me got a frame, it definitely didn't make my day.

$40k!!??

I agree 110% with the quality of prizes-to-awards ratio.

This may be off the subject alittle bit, but at the infinity open they didnt even have plaques or certificates for some of the people that shot Limited 10, I know for a fact the guy that won Limited 10 D class didnt get anything. That really does do much for a young shooter who just won his class and it wasnt even addressed. I think its just as important to recognize those shooters as well as the GM and M class winners:angry:

D-Open wasn't recognized at the 2003 Open Nationals. They only had three shooters (and one of those DQ'ed). They left the plaque laying on the table...not recognizing a under-represented class is correct according to the rules, but IMO that was pretty cold.

Yep, he said forty thousand dollars. Bend is WAY too expensive...between the prize table, the awards, putting up all the RO's, renting the portajohnnies, renting the hotel's convention hall, etc etc ad infinium ad nauseum...they lost their shorts (or so he told us when we were talking about hosting the 2005 Nat's).

I was very annoyed at the early start for the Limited prize table...and even more annoyed that they didn't start the Open table early as they said they would.

Alex, I'm not sure I would agree it was a 'Bend issue' at least looking at the things you listed here (in other words, I am not sure that the costs are that much different between putting staff up or renting Port a Johns in Bend or in Quincy).

So, maybe the issue with Bend was that people will not travel to Bend because of the cost of getting there? I do know people from the Midwest that didn't make the trip for that reason, but then again there are probably West Coast shooters that won't make the trip to Barry because of expenses either.

The bottom line is that we would have been in good shape if both the Limited and Open matches filled up, and that is what we should focus on. That's also why 'I think' we may see a combined Nationals in our future. If there is a single pistol Nationals and people declare a Division and shoot, it will certainly fill. Also, I would think that there would be lower production costs with a single pistol Nationals as the staff expenses, port a johns, etc. are only needed for a week or so, verses a couple of weeks when we do the multiple Nationals.

In fact, what I think I would like to see is one BIG pistol Nationals (maybe 20 - 25 stages). Everyone declare their Division, and let's have at it!! Just my two cents worth..... ;)

Hotels in Bend were very expensive. And don't get me started about the gas prices...geez...Left Coast/North. Sigh.

I, too, would love to see a 20-stage combined "run what ya brung" Nationals. Somewhere warm, with concealed carry reciprocity, lots of inexpensive hotels, and cheap gas. Hey, Florida...what an idea :)

Hmmmm, my hotel price was exactly that same as in Quincy! :D

As for gas prices... yes, I'll give ya that one. And what's up with full service only?? Heck, I figured if they were going to force me to buy full service gas, the least they could do was clean the windows, and check the oil.......

Hey, gas was cheap there. I came home to 15-20% higher prices.

TDean, maybe laminate or frame a printout of the stage results. That'll be nice to look at for a year until the next nationals, when you win three or four stages and you get jaded.

Erik, you need to move back to America. We have been bitching about $1.39 for 87 octane here, much less $1.99 for 85 octane up in that socialist rathole. You can't even find 85 octane around here! Much less that corn-based blended "tear up your fuel injectors and decrease your gas milage" crap pawned off on honest Americans by the blissninnies and their dupes.
