Just bought my open AR

I just bought a S&W stripped lower to turn into an open-class AR. Now I need some recommendations on parts and options to consider. I am leaning towards a RRA trigger because the one I have in my fun AR is pretty sweet.

I'd suggest a single stage trigger like a JP for IPSC type rifle.....

plus a muzzle brake of your choice

A FF hand guard

Reputable make barrel

An optic or two of course

I'd suggest a JP gas block so you can tune your gas, maybe one of their reduced mass bolt carrier systems if your really wanna go all out.

Other than that, its pretty much parts is parts (assuming the yare put together correctly!)

(there are many threads on the forum on brakes, barrels, scopes, and triggers - search)

I'm using a JP Trigger and am very happy with it. My buddy recently built 3 AR's and swears by the Accuracy Speaks trigger. I have a Badger Tactical charging handle that works really well. My gunsmith installed a Redi-mag that has helped my reloads. For optics, I'm using an Eotech 556 and a 4x magnifier. In open you'd probably want a small red dot and at least a 3x9 scope. I've only heard good things about the Miculek comp. Hope this helps you.

What sfinney said! I am for the JP trigger (single stage) too.

Here is what Matt Burkett uses:

Open Rifle:

GunSmith: JPrifles http://www.jprifles.com

18” barrel, JP Tactical Compensator

Receiver: Machined from billet upper/lower receiver set

Barrel: JP Supermatch™ air-gauged, button-rifled, cryogenically treated barrel

Barrel finish: Polished stainless

Muzzle treatment: JP tactical series compensator http://www.jprifles.com

Butt stock: Magpul PR1 http://www.magpul.com

Handgrip: Magpul MIAD

Hand guard: JP/VTAC modular hand guard system

Gas system: JP adjustable

Operating system: JP Low Mass Operating System

Standard finish: Matte black hard coat anodizing on aluminum components

Scope: Trijicon TA-11 http://www.trijicon.com

Mount: Larue http://www.laruetactical.com

Scope Cover: http://progressivemachine.net

Secondary Mount: Burkett Offset http://www.mattburkett.com

Secondary Scope: Jpoint http://www.jprifles.com

Bipod: Harris Short, Med, Long http://www.brownells.com

Bipod Quick Detach: Larue http://www.laruetactical.com

Sling: VTAC Larue Padded http://www.laruetactical.com

Lights: Surefire x300 and m900 http://www.surefire.com

About the only thing I don't really like is the Trijicon scope, to each its own. You cant go wrong with JP gear for sure.

How this helps...

RLTW,

Scott

Go with a JARD 1 1/2 lb. Adjustable trigger you will like it. Good luck on the build
