mwx40x40
I just put a new LPA TSX rear sight on my S&W 657 41 Mag. I like it a lot, with the exception that in it's lowest position, it is 6 " high at 50yds. Does anyone make a plain black front sight for this gun. The front sight is pinned in. Currently all I can find is the SDM FO, but I would like to find just a plain black if possible.

Tom E
The 625's come with a .278" patridge front blade, the tallest patridge S&W makes. Should be plenty of take-offs laying about.
Toolguy
The new front will need to be taller than the original in order to allow for adjustment of the rear. If the original 657 sight is .278, a .300 front would be about right.

mwx40x40
What is the sight radius in inches of your 657? 7 1/2" barrel with a .246" tall serrated black ramp front sight. With new LPA TXT it is about 7" high at 50 yds.
hopalong
Does your 657 have a full length underlug or a half like the model 25 and 29 ???? Hop
Toolguy
You need a front sight that's .037 taller to just bring it to zero, plus .015 or .020 to give the rear some room for adjustment. On a Smith, add 2 inches to the barrel length to get sight radius. Edited December 28, 2008 by Toolguy
mwx40x40
Does your 657 have a full length underlug or a half like the model 25 and 29 ????Hop Full Lug, not sure they ever made a 7 1/2" without full lug, but I could be wrong. I bought it used , but is new enough to have the lock in it

As stated earlier, I believe the .300 is going to be the ticket. I will most likely need the plus .020 for adj as I like to load hunting loads and plinking loads. Thanks for the info. Gregg K
In case you need to figure sight changes again, here is the formula. Just convert everything to inches and plug it into the formula. It works for windage adjustments as well. Formula Amount of Error X Sight Radius = Sight Correction Needed Distance to Target 7” X 9.5” = .0369” 1800” (50 Yards)
