Can an Long-Wide Frame be milled for an accessory rail?

I am thinking of building a new "edge-like" pistol. Long and wide dustcover, unique slide etc. You know the basics already. However can you have the frame milled with a rail to accept a light like the X-300 or M-6? I guess the question is: Is there enough material to be milled away to allow the light to fit, or must you buy the "tactical" frame?

I dont think there is enough material in there for you to be able to mill a rail on.

I've looked at it , and read about it on the web.

I think there is. Isnt that what the STI Tactical is? I trained with an officer from New Mexico, who had one built by Benny Hill, and it was cut for a rail...Might want to ask Benny.

The bottom of the long/wide has a radius that I believe won't leave too much room for the rail I think. They are the same (or very similar) widths but the tactical is more square at the bottom. Could be wrong.

No. I've looked at it before. If the radius wasn't milled on the dustcover and it came straight out as a block, you could. Take a close look at the frames and you'll see how it is different.

Hell, just look at my avatar. That's cut off of a Tactical frame. Very square at the bottom.

Well I think you guys are right in that there is not enough meat there to cut a full set of rails ala the tactical model...

Is there enough metal to cut the simpler "M3" cut? Im pretty sure thats what I saw executed on a non-tactical model.

Cylinder and Slide has screw on rails.

Very similar, but the one I handled was not marked "Millenium", and I was told it was built by Benny Hill.. But yeah it looked much like that...
