mosqueeler
I am new at this sight and i would think this has been asked before. I have looked and cannot find much. I am wanting to load Missouri bullets 180 fp in lead. I am also want to load tightgroup. I have loaded 180's in the mont. gold and bear creek as well. The bear creek are making PF the Mont. g did not. Length is 10mm. My scale shows 4.7. The lead is very accessable. I am not to far from MBC and can get all the bullets i can afford. I am shooting a 5" para. I am trying to go by the K.I.S.S. method and keep the same powder and bullet weight and not mess with my powder drop. So here is my ????'s 1.Will this combo lead up my barrel? 2.Will it PF the same as the moly's? 3.Anyone else doing this? Any info would be great. yoshidaex
In my experience, TG and lead caused quite a bit of smoking. PF should be close to the bear creek you're using. I didn't come across leading since I stopped using that combo after all the smoke.
HSMITH
TERRIBLE smoke and bad leading with TG and lead bullets.
mosqueeler
Thats what i was afraid of. My 45 likes the lead and clays combo. it does smoke but i dont shoot indoors. any powder sugg?
yoshidaex
lead will always smoke regardless of which powder you use. It all depends on how much smoke you're willing to tolerate. I'm thinking of going back to lead for 45 acp since its cheaper and i'll only be shooting outdoor matches. Clays is a fast burning powder so you may have less smoking. Derek45
You might want to try WINCHESTER SUPER TARGET ( WST ) for lead and moly. people say it's temperature sensitive, but so is everything else. MUCH less smoke with this powder.
mosqueeler
The 45 load is pretty good i dont and wont change it. Its smokes some nothing big. I have used this load combo for 4 years and never have shot jacketed bullets through the 45 so i guess i would'nt know the difference any way I have been trying to get my hands on some VV320. that aint happning. i have 2500 mont.g 180 so i need the the TG anyway i will give it a shot. i am getting 1000 lead if i dont like them i dont have much to use up. maybe the best thing is just shoot the molys and get over it. vrmn1
I never had any problem with titegroup and lead. I use it in 40 and 38 short colt. Yes it smokes but lead bullets smoke thats a fact of life. But it is the lube for the most part not the lead.
Harmon
wst works, and smokes less than any powder you can put behind lead at 10mm length, 1.250", you will probably need around 5 grains of wst in my 6 inch gun, loaded 1.135 oal, i need 4.0 Harmon
