Chemtcher
Hi folks I am looking for some load data for .38 super using Win 296. I have a ton of this stuff given to me and no real use for it. I noticed that there was one post about it from a while back. If someone has some data that they would be willing to share I have a STI Trubore looking for a good soft steel challenge load that would use up my stock of W296. L9X25
Without addressing the safety factor of light 296 loads, I can say that it gets very dirty as pressures decrease. It is intended to be a magnum powder and operate at high pressures and temperatures to burn cleanly. Might be a better idea to sell off the 296 and purchase something more suitable for your use. BrianH
You'll be blowing lots of fire as 296 is way too slow to burn completely in a super barrel.
outerlimits
if you also have some WW AA-452 lying around, it's great-almost like vvn320, except dirtier. but great for light steel loads.
kframe_mike
I have a dedicated 38 Super Steel gun on the way.I figured I'd start with 115gr or lighter bullets, and Win 231 or WST.I might throw some Unique or Universal under some and see what happens as well. That 296 is for big case, high pressure magnum stuff.-Mike
Guy Neill
Winchester does not recommend reduced loads for 296. As others have said, it also gets dirtier at lower pressures. A faster burning powder would be better. Guy
