chp5
You and I are paying these guys’ salary and, instead of focusing on issues such as the national deficit that’s a time bomb for our county, wars on terrorism, the non-existent boarder, healthcare, education, etc, etc, these guys are spending their time and our money on whether a bunch of over-paid, ego-manic jackasses are putting needles in their asses. Are you kidding me . . . ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! It makes me want to take a bunch of steriods and go knock their teeth out Edited January 10, 2008 by chp5

AikiDale
[tongue in cheek] You just don't get it Cy. It is okay for musicians, rock stars, pop stars, hollywood types and pro wrestlers to take drugs, no one cares because they are entertainers. But we're talkin' BASEBALL here. That's real! That's the American National Passtime. Kids look up to MLB players. U.S. Senator A.B. Happy Chandler resigned his Senate seat to take the job as Baseball Commissioner for crying out loud. We have people to take care of the wars and the national debt and the borders and besides,we're big enough to handle a few minor inconveniences like that. But BASEBALL! Why there ought to be a law.... [/tongue in cheek]
Carmoney
I agree. Somebody want to show me which one of the enumerated powers of the Constitution they're acting under this time?
ninemmbill
I'm convinced that the politicians keep topics like steroids in baseball active so they can avoid dealing with the real problems.
JFlowers
They use the Interstate Commerce Act to justify their actions.
chp5
I agree. Somebody want to show me which one of the enumerated powers of the Constitution they're acting under this time? As jflowers points out - it's the interstate commerce clause. Most people don't realize that the Consitution limits the Fed government to certain listed powers. All powers not listed are reserved for the States. The Fed government has wrongfully used the the interstate commerce clause to do an end-round on the Constitution and do whatever the hell it feels like. This "federalism" started with Lincoln and is now the norm - despite the terms of the Constitution. This fact should alarm most Americans - but just give us TV, baseball and Britney Spears and most of us can't be bothered with that other stuff . . . Flexmoney
(Yes, I like the cliff-notes version that wikipedia offers up ) It sure paints with a broad brush. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_commerce You see the powers expanded over the years, then brought back a bit (lately). Then expanded again. Looks like the current court allows for federal regulation of wheat, pot, & machine guns(?). (I'll bet making your own bio-diesel and hooch falls in there too?) (kid takes gun to school...federal or state?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Lopez (Cali prop 215, home-grown pot) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Raich (and how that ~means you can't make a machine gun ?maybe?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States...wart_%282003%29 ...although, I would think an amendment would trump an act? Of course...there still isn't any reason to waste time in congress with it all. I seriously doubt congress looking into steriods in sports is all about the bigger issue of Federalism. Agreed - a bit of thread drift. It's about Congress wasting time and our money - and focusing on BS topics while leaving the important ones for another day, year, decade . . .
