TEAM AMERICA - "WORLD SHOOT" POLICE

Recommended Posts

Talked to the missus and and she said it would make a great vacation. We don't want to go all that way and then fly home right away. We would like to stay a few extra days and see the sights.

Did any of you that have gone before do this? How did you secure your guns while you saaw the sights? Did the match organizers make any sorts of arrangements to do this?

What do we have to do to get a slot?

We did that with the last WS in Guayaquil. Came in a week early and went sight seeing.

You can contact t the MD/RD and ask if you can have your gun/ammo in storage while you go around town. They usually accomodate tourism.

There is a heap of stuff to do. If you're into diving there is some really good stuff up on the North Coast. Sightseeing was cheap and 3 of us hired a car and a guide for a day at about $30 each from memory. Certainly no more.

Every shooter is met at the airport, the organisers set up an IPSC desk at the airport. You are escorted to the Police office who were very friendly. A quick check of the guns and then transport takes you to your hotel. Your guns are transported by the police. The police organise armouries at the principal match hotels and you are required to deposit your guns in one of the armouries overnight. But this is a blessing in that it removes any worry. Ammo sales and registration were dealt with in a hotel function room. Match results were posted daily at the principal match hotel(s).

There is a lot of discussion over at the Global Village and Vince Pinto has just posted a link to an early draft of the match website. It has a heap of info including sightseeing stuff.

Have a look here: http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=81

and the website can be accessed from here: http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=5529

How do those who are shooting 38SC get enough ammo to the match? Does Armscour do 38SSC?

Quicks,

Armscor does manufacture rimless 38 Super brass. Part of the deal in being the IPSC official match provider is providing IPSC ammunition to IPSC requirements. (I know that they have purchased 4 guns from STI strictly to perform performance testing for IPSC requirements.)

Write Armscor, cc Nick A., requesting information on ammunition for the WS and ask them when will it be available in the U.S. for purchase. (This way you can ensure how it will function in your gun.)

The next option is to freight ship your ammo. This information will be provided on the WS website and according El Prez on Friday night, it should also be on ipsc.org as soon as it's available.

I'm interested depending on the cost. I need to look into it more before I can commit for sure, but I would be happy to be on the Enoverse World Shoot Team, sponsors or not.

I think going to the WS is one of those "1000 things to do before you die" things. The only reservation I have is that the US may get it at Tulsa in the near future, and that would be a LOT cheaper!

Has anyone come up with a ballpark figure yet?

Flights are probably going to run $1K+ from the central US and a couple days travel time to get there (anybody know if going via Tokyo with guns is a functional idea?). Hotel and everything else shouldn't be way out of line from a normal big, long match.

FWIW, I would guess that the IPSC mucky-mucks will probably want to see a successful big international IPSC match in Tulsa (maybe a Pan Am or something) before they vote for it, but a WS in the US would probably get a lot of interest.

I punched it in at work today, slow day waiting on IM to come steal my box, the airfare from Texas to DPS was about $3300 going through Hong Kong. The high end hotels are $100 a night.

El Prez said he would love to see the WS return to North America. Someone/everyone needs to get their bid submitted and presentation ready for the GA next year in Bali.

Ammo Update - from Armscor

These are the ammo we will be making:

* IPSC LOAD cal. .40SW, 180 gr. FMJ with 5.9 gr. Vihta Vuori N340 powder

* IPSC LOAD cal. 9mm (Minor), 124 gr. FMJ with 5.0 gr. Vihta Vuori N340

powder

* IPSC LOAD cal. .38 super, 124 gr. FMJ with 8.8 gr. Vihta Vuori 3N37

powder

* IPSC LOAD cal. 38 super rimless, 124 gr. FMJ with 8.8 gr. Vihta Vuori

3N37 powder

Test samples will be initially sent-out for testing by our consultants

and industry-standards regulatory bodies. Following that will be the

shipment to the different regions for testing of the shooters in their

respective guns.

In the case of the .38 Super Rimless, we had some reluctance in making

them at first because of the inherent reliability problems on the design

of the shells or casings themselves. But as Ivan (Walcott) points out,

the majority of 38 super shooters in the US will be shooting rimless, we

decided to include the said cartridge. I guess if shooters could make

the ammo work for their guns, then why not.

Now we need to know if Blackdragon (Ivan) has received word of any incoming shipments to the U.S.

Admit to yourself right up front that it will cost money. And that all your usual methods of cutting costs won't be available. If you set aside $20 a week between now and then, you've paid half the cost. (So lay off the flavored coffee beverages a bit, and start saving up.)

The host organization has all the details nailed down before they bid. Yes, you'll have to do some paperwork to get your guns in, but that's life. Ammo in your luggage is limited to 11 pounds per person. If your wife goes, you might get enough .38S to shoot. A lot of people just pack the ammo they need, never mention the weight, and slide through. (I didn't in Ecuador, but that's another story.) I'm shipping ammo ahead.

You get to go by getting on the wait list. Pretty much everyone who wants to, goes.

The rules are slightly different. If you plan to go, download the rule book, read it , and ask questions of those who have gone.

As for Teams, the IPSC staff have been a bit grumpy of late. One official team per country, per category. so if you and your three buds go in Production, you can't be the USA Silver/Bronze/Pewter/Lead team. You can be the Texas Team. Or the Four Geezers. But not anything official USA team. Unless you form the official US Team in a category. (Hint: the only one left is Modified.)

You'll see more mind-blowing stages in one place than you'll ever see again. Think of it as two nationals combined, where the stage designers and props people have had four years to work out what they want to do.

Bring a camera, and lots of storage for your digital files. Have your passport up to date. You'll have to be submitting the serial number of the gun you plan to bring (or guns) by spring 2008, so make sure your gunsmith knows your timeline.

Getting guns there is not a problem. The major hubs between here and there know the deal. You can even transit Japan with guns (just don't plan on doing anything but meeting a connecting flight) so there is no need to worry about strip-searches on your flight.
