Religious Shooter
For the WOLF 55 FMJ users out there... What BC are you using in your calculations? What velocity do you get out of a 20"? Out of a 16-18"? Thanks in advance.
mwx40x40
Out of my friends 16" Bushmaster in 65 degree weather, I got 2910 fps across my chrono. That put him at a 160 PF

Thanks in advance. Unless you know the BC from the manufacturer, the best way is to use 2 chronographs, then feed the info into a ballistic program. spd522
My 20" Colt MHbar chronos 2920 fps with 55 gr Wolf. My 16" Wilson barrel chronos 2745 fps with 55 gr. Wolf. With my 55 gr handloads, the velocity difference between the two barrels is only 73 fps. I guess the Wilson barrel doesn't hold velocity with Wolf although it shoots it accurately. George
Most flat base 55grainers Mfg BC at .235 to .243 Most boat tail 55's Mfg BC at .254 to .272 If you plug in .240 for a flat base 55gr. you will be pretty darned close. the G5 conversion for a boat tail from a G1 BC of .261 is .162, so basically taking .1 off any G1 BC will be in the ballpark. As far as 2 chronos goes, I feel 3 readings across 150 to 200 yards is needed to establish anything meaningful. I have done a muzzle, 100 and 200 yard set of readings on a Sierra 135 that called out a .488 G1 BC. My ballistic program gave me a .306 G5 correction and the 3 chrono reading when input into the same program called out a true BC of .308 I still use the .306 conversion by choice and feel the math based conversions do a fine job ;-) Hope this helps.
