Cactustactical
Earlier this week, Bruce Crandall received the MOH for actions during the Vietnam War. If any of you are familiar with the battle at Landing Zone X-Ray in the Ia Drang valley, Bruce was the pilot who flew in repeatedly with supplies and to take wounded out. A press release is on the White House web site: President Bush presents the Medal of Honor to Lientenant Colonel Bruce Crandall Bruce worked for the city of Mesa ( near Phoenix) for over 10 years in the Public Works Dept. He is now retired and lives in Washington state.
zhunter
Sorry for my ignorance, but was that the battle that was depicted in the Mel Gibson movie? If so, that guy is/was a badass!! I am sure he is anyway for getting the MOH if it was a different battle!! There was a big thing in our paper yesterday. Great to FINALLY be recognized!! Cactustactical
When Crandall was initially put in for the MOH, he tried to deflect the honor saying that his wingman was the real hero and deserved it more. Sometimes I am just in awe of the things some people do. A lot of people are alive today thanks to those 2 pilots.

Turtle
When Crandall was initially put in for the MOH, he tried to deflect the honor saying that his wingman was the real hero and deserved it more. That sounds like something, well, something that a true hero would say... Awsome, I'm glad to hear that one of the good guys received the recognition he deserved. It's not like anyone would commit those acts of heroism for a medal, but sometimes it's nice to be acknowledged for your good works on this side of eternity.
