Suppose There Was A Combined Match

Shred, I thought bout that more after I posted. I was thinking the more middle of the road guys. A lot of B class IPSC shooters end up within 10% of each other. A lot of those same guys would NOT be within 10% at an AP match. Again, it aint like I am defending the holy grail of Action Pistol, I got no more love for AP than I do for IPSC. I just think a lot of people ignore AP (for a lot of good reasons, and a few bad ones) but in a match with them all weighted the same, that would cost a lot of people.

What's the breakdown of scores at Bianchi? At SC this year, 5th place was 5% below 1st and 10th was 9% back. At the USPSA nats, 5th was 7% below and 10th 12% below 1st. Not counting the Xs (how do you do that?), as near as I can figure it, 5th at Bianchi was only 0.5% back and 10th 0.7% behind.

I agree TGO or Doug wins it. Jerry if they had 3-gun or ICORE instead of IPSC ;)

No one in the top 20 shot below 1900 (including two metallic sight shooters, Robby and Robert Vadasz). 1900 = 99%. Three folks shot 1920. 69 shooters shot above 95% (1824.)

I think the match is a great idea and I'd love to shoot one like it. But, I agree with KK - guys who know how to shoot AP will have a huge advantage over those who don't. If I were placing bets, I'd put my $$$ on anyone in the top 20 at Bianchi over anyone who placed in the top 20 at the SC or USPSA nat's (incl Multigun/3-gun.)

Yeah, I see that.. you have to actually be able to shoot to do well at AP from what I've heard, but I was thinking the top guys can do that. At a quick glance, the top 20 at Bianchi has probably at least 10 from the top-20 at the past couple years Steel Challenges or US Nationals, so it's not like most of those guys can't shoot anything, but I wouldn't be so quick to bet on a Bianchi specialist over a generalist.

+1 on what Eric said.

The only reason that I didn't like the one gun idea was because I won't shoot a Major load through my Action gun and the single stack would be a big disadvantage on the USPSA stuff. If I had to use one gun I could fit a shroud and all my other goodies on my STI and just switch between my Major and Minor top ends.

Just because the top Practical Shooters don't shoot AP, doesn't mean they can't. The only practical shooters that show in the Open results are Doug and Mike V. I believe that this was only the second year that Phil shot Bianchi and it was Mike Seeklander's first attempt. They finished 3rd and 6th respectively in Metallic.

If the Combined Match is a reality and there is a tangible prize, I guarantee that the top practical shooters will practice AP enough to become competitive.

Bottom line is that the top guys in every sport are the same guys. I think that sorta nullifies the argument for who would win overall. I would be a lot more interested in how I would match up with my buddies. It is something we could do on a practice day just for laughs.

No argument here. You're right, if they practiced I'm sure they'd do well. Would any of the USPSA top guns who don't/haven't shot AP do well at Bianchi? Sure! But shooting well and finishing at/near the top are very, very different things. That's what I'm getting at.

But, if you had the top 50 shooters in the world, regardless of division, in the same room, right now and held that match in the next 5 minutes, I'd still pick one of the folks who shot in the top 20 at Bianchi before I'd pick anyone else. Am I wrong? Maybe. You don't know how much I'd love to be proved wrong on this one. ;)

Seeklander finished 5th in 2005, 6th in 2006

Strader Finished 7th in 2005, 3rd in 2006 (I can't find his 2004 results, but he was there)
