Bill Rosenthal
Looking for .40 minor lead load for a G22 w/180gr. cast bullets. Also, any real problem with a stock barrel? Thanks, Bill
BillL223
Bill, I can't help with 180 gr lead but I can give you my 40 "Steel" loads which should get you in the ball park. Berry 165 gr FP 3.7 Clays, 786 fps, 130 pf. Zero 165 JHP 3.6 Titegroup, 763 fps, 126 pf. These were developed for a 1911 and loaded "long" to 1.20". mscott
The lead I buy locally is 167gr and I load them with 3.5 of WST at 1.13. I've shot a few thousand in stock Glock barrels with no problems. A little searching will get you many opinions. Clays makes for a nice soft load, but with lead it seems to get to hot and leaves lead in the barrel. WST is better to me for that reason and it can be loaded to major safely at shorter lengths.
Hank Ellis
Springfield XD-40 Tact. 5" 30 rounds over a Pact MKIV chrono. Precision 185gr RNFP Winchester Brass Winchester SP Primer 2.5gr Hodgdon Clays 1.125" OAL Mean Vel: 722 fps Mean PF: 135 SD: 12 Be aware that Clays and lead will produce a bit of smoke. Use moly or jacketed bullets if you can with Clays. Edited August 29, 2006 by Hank Ellis
Harmon
get a new barrel if you plan on shooting lead, 2.8-3.0 grains Clays and a 180 bear creek bullet makes a sweet steel load...should work well for minor 40 also. Harmon
