wolfie40cal
I was fiddling with my motley assortment of brass yesterday. I noticed that Starline and Winchester seemed to fit in the moonclips tightest. I am about to take the heady plunge of actually ordering some match brass. This will be a vast difference for me from my usual assortment of range orphans. Any preferences for brass for 45 moonclips? As always, thank you for the help. Bwana Six-Gun
In .45 I don't know that there is a best brand. I have used WW, S & B, PMC and Federal all with no problems. I think the key is consistent reloads and use the same brass every time. I always sort mine and only use the same brass for my wheel gun. All the other stuff goes into the box for my bottom-feeders. I prefer WW for the big matches, but I'm not sure it makes a difference if you have your stuff together.
Waltermitty
I use Starline because it is loose.
Walt S
I use Winchester in my 625 for matches, but use any others as long as all six are the same in any moon clip for practice.
pskys2
I've had best luck with Remington Brass. I've had the MOST trouble with Top Brass, it's so tight that it's tough to seat 6 in the clip.
robomanusa
I always liked Winchester for 45ACP
jmorris
I like Starline .45 GAP brass, shorter case/less volume, small primer and you can moon/demoon without having to use any tools
Tom Mainus
I use whatever I can scrounge up and re-load it until it cracks. Hope this helps
Bones
Curt - I use exclusively new Starline or Winchester for major matches and used 625-only brass for practise/club matches. Separate the 625-only brass from your semi-auto stock. Extractors do bad things to revolver brass. Craig Edited August 22, 2006 by Bones
pskys2
Bones has a point. If you have a clip that seems to stick, or hang up. Always check the brass in it first. A deformed rim can act like a bent clip.
AzShooter
I use Federal brass. Order 1000 rounds new primed for the revolver. Then I get to reload it. Federal is tighter than Starline but not as tight as Winchester.
