  1. Are Hearthco moonclips really worth the added expense? From what I see from TkCustoms, they are nearly double the money. I THINK THEY ARE I had over 60 TK Custom moon clip (.22 inch) and had constant problems. All the holes were different sizes and the space between them were different. The clip itself was thin and unstable causing the bullets to wobbel and therefore not align when loading. I had to use them ONLY for LOAD AND MAKE READY, going back to my COMP III for ongoing loading. My gun now belongs to my friend. He had the same problems with the moon clips I gave him. He has since gone to Hearthco moon clips and loves them. He said they are thicker and all the holes are aligned alowing loading to be more like that on the 625 with the moon clips at .45 inch. and stable.
  2. I like the rules as proposed. I like the idea of being able to use a 7 or 8 round wheel gun WITH ONLY SIX ROUNDS. That way I could still shoot a favorite gun and compete fairly with all others. GOOD RULES.
  3. I shoot a model 10 and use the HKS 10 for the LOAD AND MAKE READY load, then use the COMP III speed loaders for the rest of the course. I don't have problems with binding using the HKS but the COMP IIIs are alot faster for the remainder of the speed loading.
  4. AREA 1 was great last year and I expect the same in 2007. Lets see how many round guns we can put in the game this year.
  5. Bill, wanted to see your pictures as I also shoot a model 10 that was a service revolver for many years. WOW what a great looking gun, nothing like mine. Now I may have to clean mine up.
  6. If you have a SPORTSMNS WAREHOUSE in your area give them a try. I bought my 625-8 this year from them at $580.
  7. CAUTION. I blew the barrel off my 66. I shot competition with 38 specials and minor power factor. I was told that I should not shoot 357 on a regular basis because the gun can not handle that, so I've only shot about 100 rounds through the gun over the last two years. My 66 was a newer model WITHOUT the pinned barrel. I understand the problem is with the CRUSHED barrels. I have a few friends that have also had problems with the CRUSHED barrel. I'm also told the S&W does not make CRUSHED barrels any more so those of us that have them can not replaces them. I LOVE MY 66 and have a great time shooting the 38 specials. MOON CLIPPING, NO, I'd stay away from that. I started with the COMP III speed loaders and had the gun set up for moon clips. The moon clips are only .22 of an inch thick, half the thickness of the model 625's. This, in my estimation makes the bullets unstable while trying to speed load as they do not stay alighned. Hence, you can't get them in all the time and the tendancy is to try harder, push harder and therefore waste time. I would chamfer the cyl and go with the COMP III speed loaders. My overall time with the speed loaders is faster than with the moon clips. GOOD LUCK, and the 66 is a great gun.
  8. 158 gr RN I believe. That is what is shown on their web site under Ammunition and Bullets. armscor.net/Ammunition If you need more info you can call (CONTACT) them thru the web or on the phone.
  9. It took awhile to move away from the strong hand reload, as that was the natural reaction. I've been weak hand reloading for almost two years now and it is faster for me. Seems there is one less small movement involved. It would not take long to revert to the strong hand, again because it is the natural movement, but I don't think it would buy me anything. GOTTA DO WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU. GOOD SHOOTING.
  10. I shoot a model 10 M&P and a model 66 38/357, along with others. I do not recommend using +P in the model 10. I blew out the cylinder. Even with my model 66 which is advertized as 38/357 I have been told by many people not to shoot 357 in competion because of the countinous large round counts. They say the gun is great for casual 357 shooting but not for IDPA or IPSC use. GOOD LUCK.
  11. GLAD TO SEE YOUR PRIDE IN PRINT. I shoot with many adults in the Columbia Cascade chapter, that shoot with their SONS and DAUGHTERS. I enjoy watching their pride and the relationship they have with their children. What a great way to stay together as a family.
  12. I like the T-shirt idea. I shoot at .38, .357, 625 (.45) and don't care what you put on it. I also shoot a 1911, but during the last two years I mainly shoot a revolver to help our small group to grow. I've noticed more people buying revolvers or pulling the old ones out of the vault. I think anything we can do to show that we enjoy and are proud of what we shoot is a good idea. Let's make it happen, AND HAVE FUN DOING IT.
  13. I've never seen soooooooo many moon clips in one place at one time. Jerry, that is a great squad picture. I could kick myself now for not shooting with you guys. I'm glad I stopped by to see how things were going. It was nice to finaly meat Underlug, Steelshooter and Teddi. Maybe we can also get Dan C up here next year. I also know of three others that will shoot it then. Watching you guys and Teddi was a nice treat. I also noticed and heard good things being said about the way all of you attacked the course. YOU'ALL DID GOOD.
  14. I am competitive enthusiast that also shoots revolver. I starded out 2 years ago with my bottom feeder and was talked into shooting my SW model 10 to help the REVOLVER group grow in number within our sport. I went to a SW model 66 and now shoot a 625-8. I enthusiast about the sport in general and with the revolver. I competitive in as much as I know I'm only competing against 6 shot revolvers. Can't get close to those 17 to 27 round mag shooters and shouldn't try. I hear alot about a stage not being revolver friendly. SURE THEY ALL ARE FRIENDLY since again, I'm only competing against other revolvers. I just got back from Dundee OR watching the annual CRAZY CROC match. It was great to see so many revolver shooters there. Some from OR, some from ID and WA. Since this was a 400 plus round match it was also funny to see 12 and more moon clip holders on each shooters belt. They had a BLAST.
  15. I use either of these for both my 38/357 and .45
  16. SIGN ME UP, I'm looking forward to it. If you find you need any RO's from local clubs, let me know.
  17. I would not recommend it. I had my revolver set up for moon clips and I never got good at fast loading. The reason: the moon clips for the 38 Special/357 mag are only .22 inch thick. They are so thin they are unstable. and the bullets do not line up all the time. Then .... you panic and push harder which makes things worse and time go by. When I switched to the 625, the 45 moon clips were .45 inch thick. This gave me a stable platform and I looked great with my speed loads. Now ....... I'm going to continue using my model 66 and using both COMP III speed loaders and the moon clips. I can take my time with the "LOAD AND MAKE READY" using the moon clips. This also alows me to recover my brass without having to pick up 6 lose rounds. Then I move down the course using my COMP III speed loaders. They hold the round in a more stable condition than the moon clipd do. I find I can load faster with the COMP III's as I don't have the sloppy floppy rounds to force into the cyclinder. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU.
  18. Many of us use Winchester brass. Good to see another 625 going into competion.
  19. I use Winchester in my 625 for matches, but use any others as long as all six are the same in any moon clip for practice.
  20. The AREA 1 Championships are now behind us. We had good weather, very interesting, active and clean stages. Over 300 shooters and a prize table of over $105,000. The sponsors outdid themselves. THANKS. The revolver winners were: M = Tom Kettells B = Bruce Blair C = Jerry Vanderwerf D = Richard Johnson CONGRATULATION GUYS, you did good ![/color]
  21. DON'T GO AWAY. I've enjoyed reading what you say and it makes me THINK. That can't be bad. PLEASE STAY WITH US.
  22. 158 gr RN with 4.7 grs of W231, Federal primers results in 816 fps = 128.93 power factor. 4.3 grs Bullseye, Federal primer results in 863 fps = 136.35 power factor. 3.5 grs of Bulseye , Federal primers results in 814 fps = 128.6 power factor. All of this produces tight groups in my S&W model 66 with a 4" barrel. Good luck.
  23. Hey Walt, it's good to see that 625 now in your holster........hopefully no more lame excuses when the match results are posted......right !! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Right, I'm sure I've run out of lame excuses by now. It's time to shoot !
  24. Several of us shot 625's and weak hand reload. I have no problems doing it without looking and while moving. That may be because I had a hell of a time loading my model 66 with really thin moon clips. The clips for the 625 just DROP in without any thought. Maybe I can get Jerry V to film me or I can film him this week-end and send something to you. Walt
