WSB

I never really noticed the rule 3.2 that says a written stage briefing should be available at each stage. I figured that somewhere someone has a document with the stage diagrams with the required briefing on a single sheet. My plan was to just print them out and have them laminated to stick up at each stage.

Do any of you have a document that has the requirements that can just be printed? Someone has to have done this before.

The WSB's are in Practiscore. If someone has Adobe to add the WSB to the diagrams, that would be nice.

I asked Troy at NROI before I RM-ed the A4 Steel Match but there weren't any (supposedly that's in process of being fixed), so I made my own basic versions.

Sounds like a leftover remnant of a copy/paste from USPSA rule book.

2011 & 2013 SCSA rule books don’t mention it.

I have a 2019 rulebook where it first appears (don’t have anything between 2013-2019, so it may appear earlier).

At A4 SC last weekend, didn’t see any diagrams, or RO’s reading the WSB like is done at USPSA matches - with the exception being the stage that the A4 director was running…but I suspect that is only because of his long MD/CRO/RO experience at USPSA matches. I thought it was unusual, and meant to tease him a bit about it later.

I’ve only been to two WSSC’s and 3 Area SC’s and don’t recall ever hearing an RO provide a stage briefing like is done at L2 and above USPSA events.

And if you look at the stage diagram in the appendices, there is no procedural description on any of the stage diagrams, OL & SHO procedures are described elsewhere in rulebook.

I asked Zack about this and he suggested using the briefing that Practiscore gives us. It's a good briefing in Practiscore, I just wish it was coming from the rule book.

There is no valid reason to have a WSB for Steel Challenge.  OK, MAYBE for Showdown and Outer Limits with the boxes.  But if you are at a L2 or higher match the competitors should already know this.  It's 5 plates, shoot them in any order you choose, shoot the one with the red stick last, repeat 4 more times (3 if OL).

It's Steel Challenge, not rocket science. There are no poppers, no "best x hits on paper", no ports, no leaning around walls, no activators, no mandatory reloads, no need to walk through the stage, etc.

When I saw that in the rule book I just shook my head and more-or-less ignored it.  It should be removed in subsequent publications.

Ehh. we had a lot of casual shooters at the A4 SC a couple months ago, and some ROs that thought telling people to move on Showdown might be coaching... those two need WSBs, the other can just be "shoot P1-P4 in any order, then SP"

Well that's about the silliest thing I've heard an RO say since some genius thought you couldn't shoot a rimfire gun with a gun in a holster.

According to the rules: "Failure to move after shooting a maximum of three strings from a single shooting box will result in a reshoot for each string fired until the competitor moves to the other shooting box."

So were they just going to let the competitor shoot 200 strings from one box because they didn't want to coach them to move? WTF.

Gregg,

Take a look at this site.

Someone put together a nice set of diagrams with measurements and descriptions of all of the stages.

PDF's available - better than just the diagram from the appendix in the rulebook.

I noted minor inconsistencies between diagrams and descriptions on a couple of the stages, but not really anything consequential.

Steel Challenge stage guides

The written description of both the setup and the procedure for OL & SHO are in section "2.2 Layout of Stages" in the current rulebook.  I looked at the Practiscore write-up...almost word for word, but minor differences.

@joseywales Thanks for the link.

For me, I don't have any need for the diagram or the briefing and I understand why some just don't care.

We have been trying to get some new shooters out to shoot steel with us and some of them need a little help and the diagrams with the names would be helpful for some of them. I have to be honest, there were many times starting out that I could not tell you the name of the stages or remember how I shot them the last time. Most of us have been at this so long that we don't remember what the first few times were like when we were the new guy.

I figured that some nice laminated diagrams would help the new guys and gals plus just might make it look a little more professional.

Now that's going to set everyone back a bit 🤣

The T-Minus club in Albany TX ran SCSA for just a few months...not sure what happened for them to stop SC.

Anyway, it's where I saw these diagrams w/descriptions.

Stage diagram printed & attached to a target stand on each stage. About 18x24".

Here's the Outer Limits diagram with OL setup in the background.

Professionally done, and pretty damn cool.

Since they aren't using them anymore have them send them down to me in San Antonio. 😀
