Kettlebell
Does anyone have any suggestions or techniques for the best way to go from standing to prone? What seems to be the smoothest and most consistent technique for getting into the prone position and on target quickly without tearing up your body or gear? Monopod, bipod, or even with a Ching type sling? Knees first? Squat to single hand stand with support hand? Same as with pistol, but with rifle tucked under firing armpit? Others? Keep in mind, this is a combat oriented technique - not necessarily the fastest if you’re looking for a technique for competition…but effective nonetheless Edited January 3 by Kjrobbins24
Kettlebell
Thank you! He makes a good point about not jamming the muzzle in the dirt/mud/sand.
AustinT
The old magpul DVDs have a method I like and have used for a long time. Drop to your knees, lean forward, catch yourself with your support hand, and then kick your feet out. You can do it all in one fluid motion. edit: here ya go https://youtu.be/qzS-e6fFsyM?t=201 Edited June 16 by AustinT
perttime
There's more than one way to go prone, and which one is best might depend on the situation, like moving to a position, or dropping down from a higher position.

Drop to strong knee, lean forward, and brace with support, and then kick out feet.
Runswithwood1
I pretty much get down on my left knee, hold the rifle in left hand for support, use my shooting hand to brace myself onto the ground and then cinch the rifle in. If shooting 3 gun I have to move ny shotshell caddies off to my side
