RacerX1166
Perhaps a silly question but can SV mags and STI mags be used interchangeably in an SV? Have a bunch of STI mags but am considering an SV open gun. I think the answer's yes but wanted to double check. Thanks
eric nielsen
They're interchangeable. Whether your gun slightly prefers one mag over another is something you'll have to find out. But a good mag tuner can make either brand work. STIs have 2 narrow ribs on each side, SVs have one WIDE rib down each side. For both: 2 shallow ribs = 45acp 1 shallow, one deep rib = 40cal Two deep ribs = 38super/9mm
GuildSF4
As Eric said, some guns will prefer STI mags, some prefer SV Mags. (Some SV guns prefer STI mags and Vice-Versa). Properly tuning the gun and the mags will minimize or eliminate the preference. (My guns don't care which type mag I use, I can even use .40 mags for 38 SC (the ones that are tight on the feed lips)).

eerw
+1 on Beven.. when I shot open..I had open guns built on both STI and SV..and ran both STI and SV 140 and 170 mags with no problems..the 170 tubes that Beven tuned held 29 rounds.. RacerX1166
Thanks to all for the input. I've got a Pro Sx on order with Brazos but it won't be here until April but I got a bunch of tuned mags from Bob already. I wanted an interim gun (no, I don't have patience) and the strong front runner is an SV. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't setting myself up for doing a mad mag dash to make the gun run. Thanks again!
