38 short colt using 147 gr blue bullets

Anyone have a load for 38 short colt using 147 gr blue bullets? I have tight group, win 231, hp-38, unique, and red dot.

I don’t use any of those powers but I do load those bullets in short colts. Use load data for 9 mm. Like anything, start at the minimum and work your way up.

I loaded some using 3.4 gr of TG and was only getting 110 PF. Didn’t see any pressure signs but didn’t wanna get crazy with the TG. I can use 160 gr with 3.0 gr and get 125 PF.

What type of use do you have in mind?  USPSA?  Steel challenge?  Certain PF?

 

Starting with 9mm data makes sense, but let us know where you are going.

3.0grs of TG with a 147gr Bayou .358 @1.150 Makes 125pf in one of my 627's (use it for ICORE which is 120PF floor)

3.3grs of TG in the other

Start at 3.0 and chrono till you get where you want to be.

Need 120 PF for ICORE. I was at 3.4 gr of TG at 1.17 and got 111 PF average over 8 shots. I’ll try adjusting the seating depth to 1.15 and back it down to see what i get.

This has been said many times:

Revo's = No 2 the same or sometimes even close.

Lots has to do with the cyl gap and cyl sizing verses Bbl size (9i.e. dia of ACTUAL bbl)

Get some powder and keep doing a ladder until you get the PF you need

Yes, my S&W 627 always chrono's much slower than anybody's else's 627 that I test.
