ICHDH -- Can you bag instead of holster

So, I shot a SCSA match today and had a blast with this new rule - I was shooting for fun two revolvers, ISR and OSR. Both are S&W 929, but one has a slide ride on top. I had the Revo rig on at all times and all I had to do is holster the correct one at "Make Ready." At the end, when they said "holster," I said "not so fast, I'm bagging it."   Worked like a charm even if I had to name-drop the head of the NROI to override the written rule (joking, nobody made an issue except me being a smart@$$ and bringing it up). Good times...

Reminds me of the chuckles at ICORE when a USPSA-trained RO gives the ICHDH instead of If Clear, Close the Cylinder and Holster...

Not a very well trained USPSA RO, we have different commands for revolvers as well.

8.3.7 reads "“If Clear, Hammer Down, Holster” (self-loaders) or “If Clear, Cylinder Closed, Holster” (revolvers) or “If Clear, Hammer Down, Flag” (PCC)..."

I remember bagging and unbagging on the line started about the same time the first race holsters showed up, fast but not secure

guys would bag the gun instead of risking getting the gun knocked out of the holster

5.2.1 Carry and Storage – Except when within the boundaries of a safety area, or when under the supervision and direct command of a Range Officer, competitors must carry their handguns unloaded in a gun case, gun bag or in a holster securely attached to a belt on their person (see Rule 10.5.1).

 

while 8.3.7.3 doesn't specifically mention bags or cases, 5.2.1 makes it clear that bagging/casing/holstering are all the same thing.

 

I don't think we really need to have everything spelled out exactly, especially for such a common and longstanding process.
