Adam B
I just picked up an full size STI Competitor in 38SC with a 4 port comp and 4 hybrid ports. What would be the best load (i.e.-low pressure but still make major) for this gun? I am using 124gr round nose Rainer bullets with Starline 38SC brass. ErikW
The best load would be with jacketed bullets, not plated.
ipscron2000
boynty77 That is the exact gun I have but I have 3 ports instead of 4. I've been working on some loads for a couple of weeks now. This is what I'm up to and it's just about right on the money. 124 gr Montana Gold bullet .355 1.250 OAL Starline Brass Winchester Rifle Primer Hodgdon HS-7 with 10.55 gr (still tweaking) roughly 170 PF ... 80-90 degree day or 124 gr Montana Gold bullet .355 1.250 OAL Starline Brass Winchester Rifle Primer IMR SR 7625 with 7.5 gr (still tweaking) roughly 168 PF ... 80-90 degree day I will tweak and shoot both powders at local matches until I can find the cleanest of the two and of course the softest. I've spent lots of time getting to this point. I also plan on switching to .356 125 gr ZERO hollow point bullets. That will requre me to tweak some more. stingerjg
The best load would be with jacketed bullets, not plated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Plated bullets work to about 150PF, the the plating starts to come off the bullet and accuracy goes to shit. Use a high quality plated bullet like, Zero or Montana Gold. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...topic=25753&hl=
ErikW
Zero and MG are not plated, they are jacketed.

ap3
ipscron2000 I have been using a military pulled powder that has the same properties as HS-7. You can buy it from www.gibrass.com. From the website: WC820(f) This is an unusual lot of WC820 that was rejected for use in .30Carbine ammunition, due to the too fast burning rate. This is a ball powder which can be loaded using Hodgdon HS7 data or Win571 data. This is pulldown ball powder. $56/8# jug. If you buy 6 jugs it is shipped Hazmat free. This is also the best palce to buy powder for an AR-15. Just a thought to help save some money.

warpspeed
I used to have a full size 38SC Competitor but it didn't have any hybrid ports. I prefered the 115 MG JHP's with VV N-350.
Harmon
8.5 grains of 4756 and a 124 JHP. 9.0 grains is pretty warm(1520 fps) out of a 4 port hybrid and still no pressure signs with federal 200 pistol primers.
