All,

I would like to invite all of you to attend the 2005 Mississippi Classic State/Sectional Championship. Current plans for this Level III Point Series match include 8 stages, 230+ rounds, cash payout, plaques, and a full prize table. The final details are still being hammered out but you can get the latest updates from the match website at:

Thanks Renee.

Yes, this is a two day match but we do try to get everyone finished up and on the road at a reasonable time on Sunday and you are allowed to select a delegate to pick up your winnings/prizes for you if you absolutely must get going early.

Hi G+16 - The closest casinos are in Vicksburg, approximately 45 minutes west of the range down I-20. They're all of the "riverboat" variety so they're kind of small compared to the ones on the coast or in Tunica but they're pretty good. Every time I go in there they take all of my money away from me but then they did put in an eight foot tall chocolate fountain in the Ameristar buffet so I'd call us pretty much even. Friday and Saturday are seafood buffet nights.

Lynn - Well, after last year we got serious about it and decided to consult the experts. According to the Farmer's Almanac, it's supposed to be showers early in the week and then sunny and warm that weekend. If that doesn't work, I'm going to have to find a psychic to plan next year's match. Any idea who's better with weather predictions, palm readers or Tarot?

Our prop guy asked me the other day if he should get to work on the "target hats" so that there would be one for each target in the match in advance but I told him no. I mean if we're prepared for rain in advance then what would we do the night before the match to keep busy? Sit around and drink beer and eat pizzas? Who wants to do that?

So when are you leaving for Nats? Good luck.

Hotel Update:

I got word last night that our Match Hotel was trying to book our block of rooms for more than our agreed upon rate. For the time being, I'm going to accept their explanation that this was some sort of oversight and not anything shady. Please let me know if any of you are quoted anything other than $60 per night so I can take action.

Thanks,

John Heiter

As of right now, the Mississippi Classic is still a go. I think it's far enough in the future that things will settle down enough for us to still have it. All of that is of course subject to change based on a number of factors.

1. Hotels. If the hotels are still full of evacuees close to match time then we'll reschedule or cancel.

2. RO's. A bunch of our RO's come from south Mississippi and Louisiana and may have more important things to worry about than running shooters. Unfortunately we still have many friends unaccounted for.

3. Shortages. I don't think these will really be an issue but IF we're still running short of gas, food, etc. then a match would be silly.

All I can do for now is keep my fingers crossed and say some prayers for those worse off than us.

I still haven't heard a definitive word from the LA Gator Classic match staff on their match this weekend but I would have to assume that it's off and things are just too bad right now for them to get that word out. Hopefully they will be able to reschedule or, if they are open to the idea, we might even be able to work out some sort of combo match with them. Just an idea.

Other than that, I just got word that the Mississippi State 3-Gun Championship scheduled for next weekend in Corinth is officially cancelled. I'll post the info I got from Sam about that match in the appropriate forum.

If anyone has questions, I have phone service now so you can call me directly

601-925-5372 or of course shoot me an e-mail.

That's all I've got for now,

John Heiter

Mr. Heiter,

I, as well as others, received this via email:

Please put this out via TXIPSC list and other email

This comes from Gary Thibodaux, Match Director

Regarding the LA Gator League Championship match scheduled for this weekend.

The match has been postponed until October with the most likely dates being the weekend of Oct 8 & 9.

The range is in fine shape. Thibodaux being West of N.O. suffered mostly wind damage and about 5 inches of rain. The match has been postponed due to loss of electricity, phone, and general incapacitation of the surrounding area. Please be patient and help where ever you can.

It's still very early to tell, but IF situations improve enough by the time of the MS match... maybe it would be possible to join whatever forces available of the two matches and create one large benefit match?

I don't like to speak for anyone else, and I hope the people will come and speak for themselves, but according to a LA based friend, some of the LA contingent was hit hard and some faired well. Those shooters are ok, but some lost everything.

From Max Michel Jr's site:

Dear customers and friends,

Due to the terrible flood disaster in New Orleans I am forced to close my online shop for a while.

We will make every effort to be back online providing your shooting needs as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding,

Max Michel Jr.

And Tom Duchman/Action Shooting Supply...???

Nearly every major match I've been to, I've seen Tom Duchman's support and Max Sr and Jr with their wives, family and friends smiling behind their booth.

Could we maybe consider doing something for them? And the Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama shooters as a whole?

Thanks for listening.

Hi Sharyn,

1. I'm just John. Only my favorite telemarketers call me Mr. Heiter.

2. I'm open to the idea of a combo/benefit and will be talking to those guys once they've had a chance to figure out what they want to do themselves.

3. I've been thinking about Tom and Ramona a lot lately so if anyone is able to get in touch with them, please let me know.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Just trying to give you proper respect until I know you better... :D

Again, I don't like to speak for others or perpetuate gossip, but apparently Max Sr and family are in a hotel (I forgot where) and their belongings are under water.

Don't know if this is the right spot, but a quick update on the Cajun Mafia I know about.

Max Sr was in Alabama with his brother, they are safe, but house is under water and total loss.

Winston Freeman house a total loss.

Nick Urso, house was fine till levy broke, now not sure... he was in Chicago with family and fine.

Delman Walker not sure of house on the west bank, thought was ok from flooding, but looters running rampent.

Me, garage took brunt of trees falling, roof damage, no flooding. Like a dumb a** I stayed on the north shore and rode it out. At 10:00am on Monday morning, I was asking how dumb can an individual be, Had a come to JESUS moment, and got thru safe. Now setteled in Houston for awhile.

Were alive, and the rest is just stuff! Hope to see all of you on the range soon.

Hey Mark,

No, this is not the right place for this sort of discussion, but just this once I'm going to let you get away with hijacking my thread. Next time a hurricane tries to kill us all I'll expect you to get your own though. :D

Seriously, it's really good to hear from you guys. I hope Steven, Randy, Andrew, and Burt are all ok too. I talked to Nick yesterday and he's actually supposed to be in Arkansas today and trying to head down to New Orleans tomorrow. I tried to talk him out of it but he's a grown man and I can understand his desire to get back and check on his home and friends.

Anyway, take care and let us know if there's anything we can do to help you guys out. Also, if anyone else has any news of shooters from S. MS or LA, please let us know.

Sam, I saw Dennis on here posting a few minutes ago so I'm assuming he's ok.

Thanks,

John

Hey Guys,

It's Max Michel, Jr. here. Thanks for all your concerns.

For the most part, the immediate family is ok but we are still having trouble reaching some family and friends.

As far as the damage... They lost everything! My parents lost 2 houses, vehicles, guns, clothes, EVERYTHING! I hope to get them back on their feet as soon as possible but it will take time. My sister also lost all of her belongings. It is a very hard time for them and if you would like to take the time to write them please email me and I will make sure they get it... max@maxmichel.com

Also, all of Max's Choice stock has been destroyed. We are not sure when or if we will open back up for business.

For now just keep them in your prayers and please send me an email if you have any questions.

Thanks!

-M2
