Chillywig
I have been wanting to try out some MG 115CMJs. Silhouette is the powder I have been using so this what I started with. Chronoed the past two days and am needing to up my POWER factor a bit more Here is what I have done 7.8gr 1430fps 10 shot average 8.1gr 1451fps 10 shot average 8.2gr 1461fps 10 shot average Should I continue to up the powder or possibly start changing OAL to get that last little bit of power factor? jcc7x7
OAL is a measurement that 1st fits your mag 2nd fits the chamber of your gun with the "plunk" (drop, spin and tip bbl back and let round fall out) test 3rd only by necessity, causes the best feeding in your gun after the first two criteria are met. So your course of action is ladder the powder up until you make the PF you want or see pressure sign you don't want. Or change powders etc. BUT lots of folks make great loads in Major PF with Silhouette!
Chillywig
OAL is ~1.160 KKM barrel so much longer than that and it will quit spinning on the plunk My other gun also has a KKM barrel but drives the same loads about 3PF higher - I assume the popholes size accounts from the difference Looking at the way those results are trending I might have to push the load beyond 8.5gr to get a 172 PF Edited November 30, 2017 by Chillywig
CamboSoup22
LOoking forward to seeing your results. I’m in the middle of doing the same thing with Sil as well. If you haven’t seen pressure signs from the brass I would keep working up the load as well. I’ve got some loaded at about 8.0 grn behind a 115. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to chrono those yet so they’re just sitting around for now. I have loaded and fired 8.3 behind a blue bullet 125 (weighs in at about 128) and I didn’t see any pressure signs in my brass. I wouldn’t be surprised if you have more room to play with. So far I’m loving the result of sil. forgot to mention I loaded around 1.160 Edited November 29, 2017 by CamboSoup22
Chillywig
I need to make a correction My OAL is ~1.160 Loaded some more test rounds last night with 8.36 and 8.46 grains. I hope those get there as the case is getting full and close to being a compressed load.
gng4life
Sil is a great powder but had two con areas for me when I was testing it. One - it was inverse temperature sensitive so know your temps and what to expect for PF for different temperatures. If you normally shoot in temperature stable place, then no worries. It also seemed to very from lot to lot quite often so always chrono your loads between lots. Two- the yellow residue left behind in the gun was annoying to me. It seemed to get the gun dirtier than I wanted in those all day long matches but not a huge deal. All in all, a great Open powder but HS6 is still my favorite. When shooting the 124HP out of the CK I always got the yellow looking powder residue. With the 115CMJ loads I am not seeing hardly any of the residue. Not sure if its because of a higher pressure or something else...
