eric nielsen
Just wondering if anyone can provide actual chrono results with the same ammo load and different guns - the G17 and G34. I would guesstimate 30 to 50 fps gain with the longer barrel. Yes?
Matt Cheely
Dad just picked up a 17. I will compare it to my 34 when I get out to the range with the chrono this week. I'm shooting lead (gasp ) 147's over titegroup at 133 ish PF. What kind of load did you want to know about?? I've also got some 124's over WW231 that make 140 PF. Will post them both up. eric nielsen
Jacketed 124s and 115s would be great but any same load/different gun comparison will help.
driver8M3
I would guesstimate 30 to 50 fps gain with the longer barrel. Yes?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> using n310, the difference i saw was around 25 fps. the #s (fps) were nearly identical if the 17 load had 0.1 gr more powder. kitestir
I know it is not the same caliber, but my G35 and G22 had similar results. 960 from the G22 and 984 from the G35. These numbers were for CCI blazers.(havn't had a chance to shoot my reloads through the chrono yet. I was curious myself for making major in limited. ) Shawn
LwE
Caspian, Below are some chrono results from May 2003 of various factory ball rounds through stock G17 and G34 barrels. The testing was done at approximately 4200 foot elevation. Re the "impressions" at the end, the G34 had an ISMI 13 lb spring and a tungsten guide rod, and the G17 had a stock recoil spring and guide. * * * * * Tran & Co, The following results were obtained this evening, approx. 50-55 degrees temp.: G34 G17 1) Blazer 115 gr. 9mm fmj, L22H5 (Sportsman's Warehouse) 1213.4 1166.6 1203.9 1170.2 1206.2 1159.2 1196.1 1156.5 1201.9 1174.0 avg.= 1204.3 (138.5pf) 1165.3 (134pf) 2) Winchester 115 gr 9mm, Q4172, 50 round box, copper bullet (Sportsman's WH) 1222.3 1195.8 1258.4 1171.1 1237.4 1175.6 1205.1 1200.1 1178.7 1189.7 avg.= 1220.3 (140.3pf) 1186.4 (136.4pf) 3) Winchester 115 gr 9mm, USA9mmVP, 100 round box, gold bullet (WallMart) 1247.0 1151.5 1269.8 1223.4 1225.1 1201.5 1267.6 1203.9 1261.2 1189.7 avg.= 1254.1 (144.2pf) 1194.0 (137.3pf) [for comparison, this load averaged 1249.1 for nine shots over Roy/Farleys' chrono after the match through the same G34] 4) Winchester 124 gr 9mm Nato ball, RA9124N (FBI training round) 1282.4 1227.5 1271.4 1240.5 1289.4 1227.7 1294.9 1235.1 1241.2 1238.7 avg.= 1275.8 (158.2pf) 1233.9 (153.0pf) Impressions: The Value Pack Wallmart 100 round boxes of ammo were a little hotter in velocity than the equivalent Winchester and Blazer 50 round economy boxes available at Sport'smans WH, but FELT THE SAME in recoil impulse. All rounds easily made minor in both guns. The WallMart ammo proved quite accurate from 50 during today's match, and seemed to do a little better than the Blazer during informal plinking at long range this evening. All rounds ran perfectly in both guns. I'm buying the WallMart ammo if I need match ammo on the road. It's as good or better than the equivalent options, and the price is significantly less. Kevin Kline
Eric, I will be shooting some 147's (my reloads) in about a week over the chrono to see where they are. I've got my 34 now and have just started shooting it. I'll get my brother in laws 17 and run the same rounds through it. I can tell you from my 35 w/ the Glock barrel, there was about a 25-30 fps increase from using my Barsto barrel, same rounds, just different barrel (Glock compared to Barsto).
