lopezel Posted August 25, 2016 Share Posted August 25, 2016 I recently picked up a shadow target and took it to the range yesterday. It was a bit uncomfortable to shoot due to the aggressive checkered grips and because the wide safety on the left side of the pistol digs into my hand. I had a spare set of rubber grips that fixed the first issue. However, I will either need to adjust my grip or replace the wide safety on this gun. Have any of you had to adjust your grip while shooting these SP01s with the extended safety.... or am I just not gripping the pistol appropriately? If you're left handed, try swapping to a normal safety on the left side, or even a set of thin safeties (http://czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/safeties/shadow-thin-safety-set.html). Andreas Posted August 25, 2016 Share Posted August 25, 2016 The stock safeties are a mess—they interfere with getting a high grip on the pistol and are easy to activate accidentally, particularly on a weak-hand transfer. kneelingatlas Posted August 25, 2016 Share Posted August 25, 2016 If you prefer thin safeties, you can easily trade your extended safeties for stock SP01 safeties, that's the most economical way to do it. I pulled the gun out and tried the whole "thumb riding the safety" but it feels unnatural and it doesn't allow me get as high a grip as I like with my left (weak) hand. I don't put my weak hand index finger in front of the trigger guard. You've got to use whatever works best for you. Mine may stem from the fact that my first CZ was a 75B that I put a wide safety on and shot SAO in ESP. ArrDave Posted August 26, 2016 Share Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) I had a baller run on a stage, one of the better ones in my squad. Great speed (24 seconds and change if I recall), good hits, like 2 or 3 charlies down total (maybe 12-14 paper) and maybe one makeup on steel (there were like 8-10 poppers). "Hey, there are 5 holes in this target, someone didn't paste, we can't accurately score you - you're gonna have to re-shoot". I re-shoot, start of well in the first position, reload on the way to the second position. I proceed to attempt to clear a malfunction that wasn't a malfunction (hint - safety was on) at all for 16 seconds (I have video), then move to the next position which is steel, totally frazzled , mike the hell out of some steel - easy 4-5 makeups (enough to run to slide lock but not standing reload), then panic in the last 2 positions and throw mostly charlies. new stage time - 42 seconds, TERRIBLE accuracy. I met Andreas for the first time at that match and he showed me his thin safeties. I went home and ordered some. I made it 6 months of IDPA shooting with no issues on the big safeties and my first USPSA match I throw that sucker on. Not fun!
