762rocstarr
I'm thinking about having a .40 upper built for my 9mm trojan. Anyone here have any experience with this? Good, bad, ugly? Should i just get an STI .40 instead?
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Just buy a 40 complete gun. That way you will have two to play with. Thanks, Eric
zzt
+1. I've tried the two upper approach. Uneven and increased wear patterns were the result. Unless you have the second upper built by someone who does exceptional work with tooling, the second slide will be a looser fit. If you send it to a superb smith who will take the time to fit it to your existing frame (without altering your frame at all), you will pay between 2/3 and 3/4 of what a new gun would cost. The only time I think two uppers on the same gun is a benefit is in bullseye shooting. A 45 and a 22 upper on the same frame to give you the exact same feel, grip and trigger pull for both. That works because the better 22 conversion units lock into the frame and do not move on the slide rails.
RecoilJunkie
I've also gone the upper route.... its easier and you spend just a few more dollars to get the complete gun... plus if your smith is backed up you don't lose the frame for a few months or longer so you can keep shooting
