JT Johnson
I'm wondering if it is safe to use CLP type lubricants with greases like Slide Glide? Will the Clean portion play nicely with the grease or break it down? Thanks, Josh
bountyhunter
I don't use CLP so I don't know the formula. If it is a chemical solvent like acetone or naptha, it won't do the grease any good. I wouldn't mix them. Use the CLP as a cleaner, wipe off as much as possible, then lube.
Trey
JT, I had the same ? and I did some testing. CLP (regular type) is more like a gun oil plus teflon. I mixed regular gun oil with SG and then CLP with SG. I then let them sit overnight and compared the consistency. It was identical. I don't believe CLP has acetone/naptha in it. I then started to use SG#1 cut with CLP for practice and matches to test it out. This winter, I've been running SG#1 cut with CLP due to the cold here in Oregon. My G35 has run perfectly (1-2k rounds) in temps from 35-55 degrees. YMMV, but I hope that helps
Loves2Shoot
BE told me to just use plain oil when I asked him this, it seems to work just fine. I wouldn't spend $$$ on breakfree or CLP type lubes when the cheap stuff and Slide-Glide (cheap too) works well.
benos
I've never used CLP so I can't say. Sounds fine though, based on Trey's comments. It should mix fine with any petroleum based oil.
JT Johnson
Thanks to everyone for the replies and thanks for your CLP and Slide Glide test results Trey. My Kimber is about due for some serious cleaning. I'm going to try the CLP and slide glide combo. Josh
Trey
JT, No prob. Glad to help. SG is one of the few things I've ever purchased that lived up to the hoopla around it. It's great stuff.
diehli
I agree, Trey. Thanks, Brian!
benos
Trey, "SG is one of the few things I've ever purchased that lived up to the hoopla around it. It's great stuff." That's a nice "quote." Mind if I use it?
