  1. What is meant by the "emmotional state" of the shooter? I can imagine him being a little upset that his gun wasn't functioning. A new trigger job would take a big portion out my paycheck. Sounds like the shooter did a good job keeping his finger off the trigger and the pistol downrange. Perhaps his emmotions weren't that big of a factor? I don't like the unsportsmanlike conduct DQ suggestion. Seems like UCDQ is the catch all rule when you really want to DQ, but just can't seem to find a better rule. I'm no RO and I don't pretend to be one, but unless we define the exact process for unload and show clear I don't think the shooter should get the DQ. I hope that if my pistol ever gets unsafe and I either don't realize it, or unknowingly continue, that the RO will stop me too.
  2. What else is practical for 1911 advocates? Only 230 fmj bullets at 850fps? Lanyard loop on my mainspring housing? Will beavertails be allowed? Personnally, I don't think we should care how and where IPSC started. We should be looking at where we need to be going, and how we are going to get there. --------------------------------------------------------- I look at a single stack division as a good thing to get more shooters to matches, but I also think we should be deciding whether or not we are practical shooting or a shooting sport. The rules for single stack division will be very easy to decide once a path is picked. ---------------------------------------------------------- I retract my proposal for a THROWING KNIFE division. I am now in support of the THROWING GRENADE division!!
  3. A gun game/sport isn't cool. We need to market KILLING and TACTICS. We need to add a throwing knife division too. NINJA!
  4. If we decide to market USPSA, eventually we are going to have decide what USPSA is going to be. Are we a sport, or are we "practical shooting"? As a newcomer to USPSA, I would say from what I have seen, is that we are a sport . I would imagine about half the membership may be inclined to agree. The other half of the membership wishes to remain true to the roots of USPSA and keep us on the "practical shooting" path. If we take the "practical shooting" path we are quite limited to whom we are going to market our product to. Disgruntled IDPA shooters, gunshow commandos, and gun rag magazine readers are not that large an audience nor the type we should be pursuing. USPSA needs to market itself as a sport and appeal to larger audience. USPSA would have to change to do this. Can you say goodbye to the metric target? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Boudrie asked for suggestions if you thought the marketing sucked. I have one fairly inexpensive one. We need a downloadable mpeg video on the website introducing USPSA showing safety, Joe and Amy C class shooter, and what to expect at a USPSA match. Without going into more detail, care would have to be taken to make the video. The video could be distributed via the website, mail the video on CDs to people who request them from the website, and members could pass them out. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh
  5. I'm a relatively new C open shooter. The courses I find most difficult are the ones where I don't have to reload my big stick. If I know due to the round count I must reload I can do it anywhere during the course, but if the round count is near my magazine capacity my fudge factor becomes really small. A marginal hit on steel and the need to make-up a D and there goes the stage. I'm starting to finish in the middle of the pack with the B and some A shooters now. For the larger courses if I lost .75 a second to reload my scores would then take quite a plunge. If your doing this for fun then by all means have at it. Just a thought, but aren't .40 bullets more expensive than .356? I personally would only be interested in the opinions of A-M-GM class Open Shooters. I guess that means you can disregard my entire post
  6. A problem I was having when SP2 and my 550b was that the powder was fine it would do a number of things to the new style powder measure: 1) powder would collect and eventually cause a short stroke of the measure 2) powder would get caught in the powder funel and collect While I never had a double charge, I did at times get charges 2 to 3 grains over what they should of been. Polishing the inside of the powder measure helped some, but it was not fixing the real problem. Do a search for downgrade powder measure that was written by Eric. Once I downgrade my measure and added two powder measure springs, the force of the springs closing the powder measure would keep the measure from short stroking. SP2 now only varies by +- .1 grain according to my scale now. Just putting springs on a non-downgraded powder measure won't work because the springs will start pulling the measure back to place when the powder measure is already half way closed (the springs won't be as strong to pull it back then). Maybe you could measure how open your powder measure bar is and compare it to other Tightgroup users?
  7. The following method ain't pretty (like my high school prom date), but it is functional: this is for a relatively small bench. you can fit a 550b, scale, and a vise. 1) speed square, portable saw, 2 cheap horses, drill, lag bolts, couple of clamps, glue 2) walk around menards/lowes and find the melamanie (sp) - it will be sometype of particle board with a white laminate top. this top is handy for writing on and is easy to clean. buy three of these. two for top and one for the middle shelf. size is like 48inches x 24 inches. 3) get 4 4x4's - or you can be cheap and glue 2 2x4's for legs 4) get 2x6's for the sides. 4 pieces 3 feet and some inches long and 4 pieces around 14 inches long or so. this all depends on how much you want your top to hang over the actual bench. buy strong mounts for your press. buy strong mounts for your press. 5) figure out your height of your middle shelf and then put together. 6) for the top have your 2x6 above the 4x4 an inch or so. get it level. use the clamps to hold the wood so you can test with level before drilling the other three upper supports. put the top on. 7) lag screw to the wall. buy a lot of lead and put it on the shelf. If you want to order a 650 I'd give Bryan a call and see how big they actually are with a casefeeder. I have no idea if a 650 will fit on this bench. J
  8. Lousy idea if USPSA wants to be considered a shooting sport. Great idea if USPSA wants to be considered training. As long as I get recognition as high 15-20 pounds overweight category I'm all for adding CCW awards! Josh
  9. Ooops. I'm retarded, sorry for the waste of bandwidth. Josh
  10. You may want one 126mm for the ever so rare prone shooting stage. Josh
  11. Is John Amidon the only person that gets to make this ruling or does a committee meet and decide and he just relays the decision? You'd better find out from Amidon which widebody frame you can use! According to Amidon's logic the Caspian widebody frame would be a no-no then?
  12. I don't think the fast moving bullets from open guns will cause problems, but the slower moving .45 bullets are more likely to trigger the sensors since the blast arrives before the bullet. If you shoot through a small cardboard port that should allow the slower moving bullets to use close distances. Perhaps standardizing some type of port to minimize muzzle blast that could give a false reading? Josh
  13. Arguing about what the definition of practical is, was, or should be does absolutely nothing. Both the “dinosaurs” and the “modern” practical zealots both miss the point. Are upside-down targets or texas stars practical? Will Colonel Cooper think my field course is practical? They both test your shooting ability to hit the damn target as fast as possible. It is time to have a funeral and bury practical. What we are currently doing is a sport to get the best points divided by time. You can call it practical with whatever definition you want, but your deluding yourself if you do. Just set-up the targets so the shooter is challenged. I believe that IPSC/USPSA will not be around in the future with the current political climate of the world. This sport has the opportunity to introduce many people to shooting and change non-gun owners’ opinion of firearms ownership, but we are currently throwing away this opportunity we won’t have in the future. I know this post will probably rub most everybody the wrong way, but I feel that we have to change our current course or inevitably lose our sport in the not to distant future. I really enjoy spending a Sunday outdoors, socializing with other shooters, and trying to compete at my highest level. I just hope I’ll be able to continue my favorite form of recreation. Josh
  14. I'll take a guess at your problem. Right below where the small white tip goes is a hole for an allen key. This controls how far back the primer slides. Sounds like it might be screwed in to far. If you unscrew it to much the primer slide will go to far back and you'll have primers jumping out of the cup instead of not getting into the cup at all. Josh
  15. www.mozilla.org has pop mail client called thunderbird. it supposedly can "learn" by how you use it to detect what is spam. i used it on my pc till it my pc gave up the ghost. nice little pop client. switch the options so it moves to junk folder w/o deleting and you should be good to go.
  16. Anyone up for starting the White International Pistol Association? We sure as hell don't want any minorities coming to any type of pistol event. Last thing we need to do is to show them' people the secret of the almighty "hammer." Can you imagine what would happen if gangbangers and terrorists learned the power of the tac-reload or the ability to use cover. Tongue-firmly-in-cheek, Josh
  17. What Shred said. There was a court case in California a few years ago by an indivual that used the deadly egret shooting stance in a self-defense shooting. While the indivual was found not guilty in the criminal case, the subsequent civil suit took him to the cleaners. ** anyone using sp2 for 115 grain for major 9mm or hs6? about out of 124's and have 6000 115's and was wondering if anyone is using 115's?
  18. I didn't think it would be hard to switch eye dominance until I tried to do so in dryfire. Going from strong eye to weak eye isn't easy. Thanks for the posts! Josh
  19. Did a search (weak AND hand AND Open) and didn't find any results. Is it feasable with an Open gun to shoot weak handed with your left eye? Using my strong side eye forces me to either extend the arm far out or to cant the pistol to much. Does anybody do this or think it is worth practicing? Thanks, Josh
  20. I don't know if this will work and won't be trying it myself. What about trimming some .45 Super brass from starline?
  21. I wish they'd stop printing combined division scores myself. Hell, an open gun is expensive enough, but do you know much it costs to see a psychiatrist since your regularly getting whooped on by those un-tactical production and lim10 shooters? Josh
  22. Well after reading this thread I went ahead and order a Kershaw Scallion w/aluminum green handles for 38.97 shipped. My dad gave me a buck 110, but I don't know if it is legal to carry in IL since anything over 3 inches is illegal. Can't wait till the knife arrives. Josh
  23. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...t=0entry87595 Think there might be a link to fedex policy in that thread that you'll want to print out. Be ready to ask to speak to the manager and budget at least a half hour of your time. Josh
