scduckman03
Is there any difference to upper on 2011 and 1911. Just wondering..have never seen a 1911 hydrid gun
vtecpaoche
The uppers are the same on a 2011 as the 1911. Are you referring to a sight tracker on a 1911? You can but you could only use it competitively in Limited 10 with 10 round magazines. You can try Limited or Open but the limited capacity would be a severe disadvantage. It would still be a cool piece though if it's a range toy only.
scduckman03
Yea.. Just never seen one.. Like the concept.. Can a stock slide be converted into a hydrid barred slide.. If not why?
Larry White
Sure it can be done, just cut the slot for the rib with a mill and fit up the barrel.---------Larry
Nibbles
A store here in Norway have some from SVI: http://www.pvas.no/vaapen/haandvaapen/pistoler/svi-infinity/svi-custom-1911-6-9x19
vtecpaoche
My buddy is doing one now. Just buy a regular slide and mill it. Fitting it is a bit of a pain though but a gunsmith should be able to do it.
Rasyad
I am also curious about sight trackers. Does the milled slot in the slide compromize barrel / slide fit at the muzzle? It seems like there wouild be less surface area between the barrel and slide at lock up. Rasyad
scduckman03
I asked svi if they could convert a older svi into a sight tracker and they said no..that I would have to buy a new upper@ $2200..if what Larry white said is true..sounds like they just didn't want to.. vtecpaoche
The number of contact points are the same with the sight tracker as a non sight tracker if done right. As for building one with a new upper, it may be easier for them to do to get a tight fit. If you change caliber, you would need a new upper anyway. scduckman03
Was thinking of buying an Schumann island barrel and having it installed into my 2011 STi edge 40.. Can't afford the svi sight tracker just yet
MikeRush
Is there any difference to upper on 2011 and 1911. Just wondering..have never seen a 1911 hydrid gun No, slides are the same. Hybrid single stacks are very uncommon because they don't really fit well into any of the popular competition divisions. I've never seen someone who is just a "gun guy" with a sight tracker, only USPSA shooters.
1911A12011
Hybrid on a 2011 is a nice set up because you'll have lighter reciprocating mass (of the slide) and heavy static barrel (& the front sight does not move with the slide). You can achieve a faster follow up shot for USPSA and IPSC (two round per target). However, I have not seen any single stack USPSA Grand Master who used a hybrid on 1911 in any major match. vtecpaoche
They are not legal for SS which is why it's uses are limited. If they changed the rules, I'm certain someone would be using it in SS.
