f2benny
I recently bought an sti trojan off a member here. It shot great a couple times then I hit the broad side of a barn. Turns out the front sight is loose ags was way off center. There is no set screw. How can I get this to remain fixed in place? Stake it?
earplug
Staking is the easy way. Drill and insert a roll pin is the bullet proof cure.
al503
Depending on how loose it is, I'd start with the simplest. Try some red or green loctite. If that doesn't work, peen the bottom of the sight with a starter punch and then loctite it.
jcc7x7
Worse comes to worse buy a new Dawson sight and fit it correctly
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Clean it up and use some red Loctite. If it comes loose again you can peen the bottom with a center punch. If that does not work you can drill and tap it for a 2-56 setscrew. The setscrew looks better than a roll pin I think. Thanks, Eric
1911A12011
I cleaned and applied red Loctite. Then, peened 4 spots on the top with a center punch. It worked for me with 180 grains, Universal Powder, 40 cal with 182 power factor. I'll try to take a picture latter and will upload so you can see. Aircooled6racer
Hello: Don't peen the top, peen the bottom side if you go that route. Thanks, Eric
1911A12011
I agree with Aircooled6racer at least you won't see the marks. I did it that way because I did not have a vise at the Hotel and I need it for the 2nd day early morning match schedule of 2015 Western States Single Stack Championships.
