usmc90
I currently am using RCBS small base die set but am thinking about a switch to maybe a set of equivalent Hornady dies. Any thoughts? I load on a Dillon 650 btw
LilBunniFuFu
Is there any problem with your ammo now? If no, why fix what isn't broken.
usmc90
Nope.. no problems there. Was just looking for input and some options and why.. also I have an empty tool head and was thinking about setting it up for just a decapping and size die w/ later on a possible RT1500 trimmer. ? LilBunniFuFu
The separate toolhead for standalone brass processing is a good idea. How do you clean your brass, wet or dry? Is this for 3 gun plinking rounds or longer range stuff?

dauntedfuture
Hornady dies run on the smaller side for their standard dies. I also like the hornady lock ring design and the egg shaped expander ball. Of the dies i have i have yet to break a hornady decapping pin.
bfilbey
I have bee using the same set of RCBS dies for 35 years. I bought a SB set because that is what the book said to use for a semiautomatic. I had a Ruger mini 14. Today I have a Dillon set up with Dillon carbide dies and do not notice any difference. I Still use the old RCBS dies with the single stage press for some bolt gun fodder. I set the die to just bump the shoulder and it seems to work fine. Today I would start with regular dies and only go to SB if I had something with a tight chamber or maybe some hunting ammo. I have not used Hornady dies. I hear good things. yellowfin
I use Hornady dies because the seater die pushes on the ogive of the bullet rather than the meplat, so it doesn't deform polymer tips and lead soft points. I too am also a big fan of the locking rings.
