I believe this is quite common, I've also done this when selling or trading custom gear. For me it's like the cash has slightly more value than the trade. So ill take your $500 bucks right now..., but if you want to trade something, it better be worth $600.00 to me as a trade.

Not sure if that makes sense?

In other words, to make it worth my while to consider a trade, your item has to be worth more than what my cash-out price is.

And if your item is worth lets say $700, then I will give you my item as a trade +$100. I think as a general rule the trade value is always higher than the cash value.

Still, both parties have to agree on the trade value for it to work. Sometimes an item is worth more to one side than the other.

Agreed, it works both ways, but in general everyone's trade value is always slightly higher.
