We have the Nook travel with the squad. We tried leaving it on the stage and found folks would just toss the Nook wherever, like the bucket with nails in it and any number of sketchy places likely to damage it.

I have an ad hoc WiFi network setup by which I can sync the Nooks from anywhere on the range. The syncing is done about every 5 minutes or so. Figure if a Nook goes down, we'll lose a few scores at best.

Do it that way if you want, but if for some reason you have the traveling nook crash and take all its data with it, you've lost that squad's entire match. Seems better to me to have a stage nook crash and just have to throw out a stage. Neither scenario is good, but to me the former is far worse than the latter.

Nooks are tougher than you think. I fish mine out of the same conditions, clean them off, and they're fine.

One other point I learned two weeks ago, dust is your enemy. blow or brush the edges of the screen clear of all dust. If you don't you;ll start thinking the nook is going bad, it isn't, the dust is screwing with how the screen is read.
