Made it out to the range today to do some chrono testing. I did 5 runs as follows:

Red Dot - 124g Blue and 147g Bayou and Blue

Titegroup - 147g Bayou and Blue

I even did some group shooting afterwards for you groupies out there :).

All loads where shot through my M&P 9mm pro with stock barrel. Groups were shot off hand at approximately 15 yards (15 long paces from shooting position).

Red Dot 3.8g with Blue 125g @ 1.130

Avg velocity: 1051

Avg PF: 130

SD: 11.7

ES: 33

Red Dot 3.0g with Bayou 147 @ 1.135

Avg velocity: 861

Avg PF: 126 (too close for comfort!)

SD: 11.9

ES: 38

Two of the 10 rounds went sub-minor by 1 and 3 FPS respectively.

I need to repeat this test with them loaded at 1.125

Red Dot 3.0g with Blue 147 @ 1.135

Avg velcity: 875

Avg PF: 128 (too close for comfort as well!)

SD: 10.2

ES: 26

All rounds made minimum power factor.

I need to repeat test with them loaded at 1.125

Titegroup 3.1g with Bayou 147 @ 1.135

Avg Velocity: 896

Avg PF: 131

SD: 9.8

ES: 25

Titegroup 3.1g with Blue 147 @ 1.135

Avg Veocity: 909

Avg PF: 133

SD: 13.3

ES: 46

I will post the group shots as replies.

Edited to correct 124g bullet. My wife doesn't seem to know the difference between a Bayou and Blue ;)

Group shooting isn't a skill set I have but I did manage to at least hit the paster once. The pasters were used for aiming point.

EDIT: Blue 125g with Red Dot.

Thanks for the data.

How about smoking? I loaded some of the new coated bullets the other day with Titegroup and had a friend step back and just judge "smoke". Ummm... Let me think of a good word to describe it... Oh yeah "chimney"

I was really hoping the Titegroup would work, I like that powder.

I didn't notice any smoke but I rarely notice it for any of the loads I shoot.

I shot them in a match yesterday and there's no noticeable smoke at all.

The 3.0 Red Dot and 147gr blue was my best grouping load, too.

You need to quit posting that damn picture - it just reminds me how much better of a shot you are than I am :). I'm going to load some up at 1.125 and chrono them after the steel challenge match on Saturday.

An important note about calculating the power factor for the 147gr blues... they weigh in for me typically at 149 and change, so I used 149 instead of 147 to calculate the power factor.

I'll check mine tonight. I've done a few random samples and the weights have varied. Some over, some under and some right on. While I'm at it I'll check all of the bullets I have on hand and see what I come up with.

If you ever need just a little more thump I run 3.4gr Titegroup under 147gr Blue and Bayou bullets. Makes 143 PF out of my XDM 5.25 and accuracy is very good, similar to AJE's target above. Barely any more recoil than my 109 PF steel challenge load with a different bullet, but makes the steel jump.

I was watching the video of my match over the weekend. There is a little smoke I notice from the Red Dot/Blue Bullets (look on the indoor stages) but not enough that I noticed while shooting.
