DWFAN
Anyone have pictures of guns or reviews of the Nitride work done by H&M? www.blacknitride.com
Matt Cheely
I use them for my builds. They've always done a good job, but I do send them completely prepped for coating (media blasted, etc) so I can't comment on that aspect. Here's one that was coated and then cut through into the stainless slide & barrel.
DWFAN
Thanks Matt. The one I'm considering sending in is two-tone stainless. Blasted with polished/brushed flats. I'm trying to figure out how that will look after treatment.
SouthernGunsLLC
H&M is awesome, great people to work with. We use them for quite a few parts, they have black nitride down pat

Quack
Do you build extra tolerance into the gun for coating? How thick is it? good question. I'm about done with my build and I am planning to drop it off at H&M, since they are not too far from me. Matt Cheely
No extra tolerance built in. There is technically a little added to the part but it's so minimal that you can ignore it.
DougCarden
Matt, How does it hold up compared to Hard Chrome long term, all other things being equal.... Thanks, DougC

Matt Cheely
The top black QPQ coating can wear off after a while, but can be reapplied. With chrome it shines up from use / wear. Chrome cleans easier, but I think nitride is slightly better in the long haul.
Maxximuss
That's a sexy gun Matt! Is black nitride a PVD? Similar to TiN, TiAlN, or TiCN?
Ross Carter
It's great stuff and tough, it does not add an appreciable amount of material. The one thing I would caution people about is don't expect it to be like a beautiful Colt blue job. It is more like parkarizing in that it sucks up oil and looks great when it has oil on it, when dry it looks a little grey and not as attractive. HM does a great job.
