StealthyBlagga
The Independence Day Action Rifle Match is being hosted by Rio Salado Sportsman's Club again in 2014. This, the 9th annual match, will be held on Friday July 4th 2014, with registration opening at 6:30am and first rounds downrange at 7am sharp. Shooters will be divided into squads, so we expect to be finished in a timely manner - probably by 1pm or so. The match will consist of 4 challenging run-n-gun rifle-only stages, with targets ranging from 1 yard to over 300 yards. Prizes will be distributed by random draw. For newer shooters (including many new AR15 owners), this match will be a great opportunity to dip their toes in the action shooting waters. Most military-style semi-auto centerfire rifles are suitable - just bring a few spare magazines, plenty of ammo, and a safe and positive attitude. The match ammo count is expected to be around 150 rounds, but we suggest you bring at least double this amount. Please note that Rio Salado prohibits all steel-containing projectiles (such as military M855 "green tip", most Wolf ammo etc.), so please check your projectiles with a magnet before the match to avoid disappointment. Steel cartridge cases are OK. The match will be run under a rifle-only version of IMA-SMM3G rules, with time-plus scoring. Download a copy of the match rules to learn more about the equipment divisions, scoring and safety protocols. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or contact me directly via IM or email. As in previous years, the match is being run as a benefit for the Arizona Citizens Defense League; with the heightened threat to our 2nd Amendment rights, the work AZCDL does is more important than ever before. The match fee of $60 includes a donation to AzCDL, in return for which competitors will receive a free 1-year AZCDL membership (or renewal for existing members). Entries are being accepted through the AzCDL on-line store only. We are only take pre-entries, so don't bank on turning up and entering on the day. This match fills up quickly each year, and we are capping it at 60 shooters, so be sure to get your entries in early!

anightswim
Aimee and I are signed up again this year. Richard designs great stages and this is a great way to start your 4th of July celebration. Thanks to AZCDL for putting this match on and for the work they do to protect our 2nd amendment rights.
pmt
Just signed up. Thanks for heads up here, I don't always remember to check the club calendar for future events. Could you clarify the following rule: 2.2 Rifles may only be handled and/or displayed in a designated safety area. Prior to the start of a match (any match), competitors have been known to uncase a rifle and/or shotgun in the parking lot and place it into their gun cart/caddy. At days end, the rifle and/or shotgun are returned to the vehicle in the same manner. Is this an acceptable practice at RSSC? StealthyBlagga
Rule 2.3 is more applicable to your question: 2.3 Rifles may be transported to, from and between stages only in the following conditions: 2.3.1 Cased, secured muzzle up or muzzle down in a stable gun cart/caddy, or carried slung with the muzzle up. Actions must be open and detachable magazines removed. The use of high-visibility open bolt indicator devices is recommended as a courtesy to other event participants. It is generally OK to unbag guns at your vehicle and transfer them immediately into a cart, provided of course you observe the normal rules of safe gun handling - magazine/ammo removed, action open/flagged, muzzle in a safe direction at all times etc. Muzzle sweep anyone and you open yourself up to a match DQ under rule 2.5: 2.5 A participant who performs an act of unsafe gun handling will be stopped by an Event Official as soon as possible, and shall be disqualified. Examples of unsafe gun handling include: ... 2.5.8 Pointing a rifle, whether loaded or unloaded, in any direction deemed by Event Officials to be unsafe. Rule 2.2 is basically intended to stop folks from playing with their guns outside the safety area. If you want to work on, clean or just show off your rifle to a friend, please do so in one of the many conveniently located safety areas, and not it the trunk of your car.
