Chiefbart2k5
How do you know what GEN a particular GLOCK is?
alma
Gen 1 has no finger grooves Gen 2 has finger grooves and once pin in the locking black. Gen 3 has two pins in the locking block Gen 4 interchangeable back straps and dot like gripping stippling.
Butterpuc
That is pretty close Gen 1 - no finger grooves, no front strap stippling, no light rail, 1 pin in the locking block Gen 2 - no finger grooves, front strap is stippled, no light rail, 1 pin in the locking block Gen 2.5 - yep that's right (most would probably call this Gen3), does have finger grooves and is stippled, has light rail, 1 pin in locking block Gen 3 - same as Gen2.5 except it as 2 pins in the locking block Gen 4 - can't think of the name of the stippling but is basically flat-topped pyramids (Rough texture) with finger grooves, wider mag release and reversible, interchangeable backstraps, dual recoil spring. That's basically it. Here is a pic I found online, maybe that will help.
alma
Thanks. Looks like I missed the true Gen 1.
Southpaw
The different generations are based on the grip texturing, finger grooves, and rail, not the # of pins in the frame. Gen 2s in .40 have 3 pins and there are some Gen 3 9mms with 2 pins. The pictures above are the best indication. The Gen 2.5 has the finger grooves, but no rail. And if you're unsure if you're looking at a Gen 4 it says "Gen 4" on the slide

Braxton1
Glock refers to the flat-topped pyramids as "Poly-mids".
