dhunt91
I all First of let me say i am new to Open as well as reloading so any help given will be greatly appreciated. First the bullet which do you open guys think is better the 115 gr CMJ Montana Golds or the 124gr CMJ Montana Golds? Second is Powder: been looking around and seems a lot of people are using auto comp or Win223 for open loads. What is the best in your opinion. Gun is a g17 9mm with a 3 port carver comp since it will go between minor and major for USPSA and Steel Challenge.
Sarge
In a Glock you will most likely be limited to 124 grain bullets due to length limitations. WAC is pretty good powder for 9MAJOR. Not familiar with win223?
dhunt91
okay thanks for the info I was already leaning towards the 124's and maybe I was mistaken on the win
DavidSnethkamp
I have had excellent luck with the Berry's 124 gr hollow base bullets. The hollow base allows me to shorten up the round for good performance thru the Glock mags. Powder: Autocomp
dhunt91
okay so autocomp powder looks to be my choice thenbullets well still see onany suggestions on primers? SSP or SRP
Sarge
Probably stay with SPP in a glock as rifle primers are pretty hard and may not go bang if you have lightened the springs up in the trigger.
JackinSD
Another powder to throw in is HS-6.
dhunt91
Yes I do have the lightened springs in the gun Installed the Glocktrigger.com trigger from dawson in it along with all the springs
glocklover
I use 8.3grs of HS-6 with a 124gr montana gold bullet. OAL is 1.70 It gives me about a 170 PF. I shoot a Glock 17. It has a Lone wolf barrel.

Sarge
Okay thanks for the clear up dont feel like blowing something up lol 1.6 would never be doable with a 9mm. The 1 was missing after the . is all. I think 1.17 is pushing your luck in a Glock mag. I would try to stay close to 1.16. I don't even run 1.17 in my STI mags Edited March 4, 2014 by Sarge
ickus
6.7 of MRI sr7526 under 124 fmj with oal 1.46 = pf 171 in my open G34....... I have found that oal's of 1.30 to 1.60 is where i shoul be.

I can't imagine that Glock would make their mags unable to fit the max standard OAL for 9mm.

Load them up and make sure they work, in every mag, every time.
sweetback
John Nagel (aka) glock jockey of SJC reccomends 1.145 O.A.L. with 124 gr. jhp montana gold And i use federal small rifle primers. Extended tip Jager or Glockworx striker for reliable ignition, when 4lb. striker spring is used. I get 100% ignition in 9 maj. 17 open gun. Load is win. auto comp 6.7-7.0 grn. 11 port SJC comp Edited March 5, 2014 by sweetback
