.40 Minor Load - 180 FMJ - Solo 1000

I'm looking for a .40 minor load with 180 FMJ (precision delta) and Solo 1000.

I'll probably go to Titegroup, but I can't get any Titegroup right not and I've got 8# of Solo 1000.

I've found several major loads, but don't see any minor.

This will be in a STI Trojan, and would like OAL to be 1.18"-1.2"

Thanks

I did some chrono testing with the following:

43 deg F, factory Glock 35 barrel

180gr Ibejiheads, 1.138", Magtech primers

3.4gr Solo 1000 ~ 140.0 PF

3.6gr Solo 1000 ~ 143.4 PF

FMJ will probably be a little slower than the coated Ibejiheads.

Also keep in mind Solo 1000 runs a little slower in warmer temperatures. I've had to bump up a few tenths at major PF for 85 degree weather vs 65 degree weather. I use Solo 1000 only for local matches for this reason. I save the n320 for majors and know that it won't change velocity much with the weather.

The chrono I used isn't reliable enough for me to determine which load was best. I forgot we had been having problems with it. It was also really cold today, near freezing. I really wanted to get a general idea of where to start the load with the new gun. It looks like 3.5-3.6 pushing a 180 gr moly will be close to a 125-130 pf out of a stock G22 barrel. I will borrow another buddies chrono though on a warmer day and work some more loads. When that day comes I will pass on the results.

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got to test out the new chrono with my G22. It has the factory barrel in it and a stainless guide rod with a 15lb recoil spring. My brother is shooting western states single stack this week and he said the chrono there was dead on with ours for his readings. I previously loaded up some stuff at 3.5 g pushing a 180gr coated bullet at 1.132 avg length. I ran a few of those through the chrono a week ago to see how close they were. I got around 820+ fps off the 3.5. Way to high since I need 695 ish to make min pf. So i loaded up 20 each of 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4. Same batch of powder and same length. It again was a bit cool today, 50's, but I let the bullets sit in the sun a bit to warm them up since speeds drastically reduce with solo 1000 when they are warm. here are the results.

I ran the last 10 of the 3.0 and got an avg of 709 on those 10.

as you can see I am good all the way down to 3.0 in my gun. 711 fps gets me right at 128 pf. I will run these loads again sometime in a few weeks when we get a hot day to see how much they change. I didn't check for accuracy today. i'll do that some day i have more time soon. i can tell you 3.0 was extremely soft. I had no function problems with the 15lb recoil spring but I didn't really push the gun today. I have a 13 lb I can put in too if I start having problems.

Hope this helps.
