How to know the diff b/n old and new mag

I just acquired my first Limited HC gun. 40 S&W. How can i tell if I have the old or new style magazine? Gun is used.TIA.

New style has a black follower and matte anti friction coating. K40 is the usual stamping

And if not directly from EAA the new ones which are made by mecgar will be stamped "MG WIT 40-LF"

Old crappy ones have a black, glossy, high friction powdercoat finish.

They are marked with a triangle that has a T inside.

First one is just like you described. Matte, black follower, also with a spacer inside, 12coil spring. The right mag, i bought it a year ago and seller said he used 40S&W with it (it is marked 10mm and T inside a triangle). Is this the mag that is notorious to nosediving of short loads? I tested filling it and it would take 21 rounds of 40S&W, reloadable.

ugh.. that meant i bought a crappy mag a year ago. Maybe I can just transfer the internals and the basepad. Basepad i believe is the older version. It uses a hex key.

So i did try to use internals of the old tube (grams) but the back of the follower wont fit with the spacer on. Just the basepad alone with stock springs (12 coils) and stock follower, i was able to fill it with 19rounds reloadable.

Ill look into hennings website later..

You just need the Grams FKT9-11 follower kit (Follower Kit 9mm - 11 coil) for the mag with the spacer.

So you can also use Grams on Tanfo mags, that's great...

So the code FKT9-11 follower kit, is that a code under Hennings? or Grams? I went to both website and can't find it.

The one marked 9/40 is what you would use for the newer mag. The bottom one marked .38/10mm is what you have in your old mag

You have to call Grams for that follower. It's been out for a year and he still hadn't updated his site.

I just wanted to update this thread, I did send a message to Beven G and he was quick to reply. He said that the right part number would be FKTS-11 (i did say FKTS9-11) =) and he doesn't sell just the followers alone.

He did say that the old follower can be modified by removing about 0.060" off the back and round off the square corners and edges.

ya I had 2 of the glossy mags with the T and triangle on them and worked great with stock springs and followers but when i installed basebads they didnt feed very well,

which caliber that has a spacer infont? for the 10mm i didn't see one.

Sorry 40/9 have spacers, 10/45/38 don't.

something just popped on my mind, so if i am using a henning basepad on these newer mag, obviously the spacer doesnt run the whole length of the mag with the basepad. will this create a problem? will the follower get snag with the spacer on the bottom end when compressed?

Not 100% true. There was a short run of rear spacer triangle-t mags. They were better than the front spacer ones, but not as good as the Mec Gar's

When the tube is fully loaded, the last round doesn't leave the mag tube, so the basepad doesn't need a spacer.
