Will Abrahams
What does the term tuned mags mean? What is it that gets tuned? This generally refers to STI/SVI mags. The magazine tube dimensions are tweaked for optimal capacity and the feed lips adjusted for reliable feeding. Some people will also adjust the lower part of the mag body ribs so the follower will not flip and get stuck. Other things such as polishing the mag, drilling witness holes and etching can also be done. I have had great results with mags tuned by H.Smith and Freedom gun works. Paul-the new guy
Tuned means they have been adjusted to max capicity the feed lips have been adjusted to ensure they are 100% reliable and they fit the gauge. They are also often adjusted to make sure they drop free. They are also often polished inside and out and are numbered.

latech15
Here is a video of my mag tuning procedure. This mag ran perfectly the entire match. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202308784990572&set=vb.1519923678&type=2&theater
JaeOne3345
I must be extremely luckily. Within the past couple years I have purchased about 10 STI tubes in 10mm/40sw, removed them from the bag, installed Gram's internals, and a base pad of my choice, and they all run reliably, hold 20, and drop free. I am not sure about 9/38, but for 40, I have found the whole tuning concept to be questionable. Perhaps it was the case with older manufactured tubes? I can see the need for someone to massage a tube to get 21. Edited October 30, 2013 by JaeOne3345
