Solidgun
What are some of the training a shooter should do to improve time during live fire practices? And what is the time to aim for on the clock for those drills. I am working on sub second draw fire, but wanted to know some other times.
zjmccauley
1 second draw and shot (and hit) is a good goal

HEAVY556
Whatever time you use don't get used to it. Once you can perform the task at that speed every time, drop the time and push harder.
kujo929
Stoeger lists a 2 sec bill drill as well. Which is a good way of building onto the 1 sec draw Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

fishsticks
Which Stoeger books would you suggest starting with? I see several. Dry fire training for the practical pistol shooter. All of his books are good, but I'd start with this one.
Reshoot
I started out using Steve Anderson's dry fire book. This book is laid out real nice, with the drills, and sheets for recording your times. Then there is a column to record your live fire times, on the same drills. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the book
fishsticks
Refinement and repetition by Steve Anderson. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1930847769/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/182-6042885-0203028
daves_not_here
Stoeger has a table of times for drills in his Skills and Drills book. To improve times for live-fire practices do dry-fire. Anderson's dry fire books has goal times for his drills. For the ones he doesn't list times he explains how to get a baseline time and how much to reduce the time for improvement. This approach will be good for your live-fire. The books by these two guys have been recommended all over this forum. It's worth repeating. JackinSD
No one can argue that practice makes perfect however only perfect practice makes perfect. I understand your reasoning behind this but I will have to disagree. If you don't make errors then you will not make any improvement. Make the errors then fix them.
