glockdude1
Yesterday I loaded up some 45ACP and did a little testing at the range....using my Sig 1911 Match Elite Some of my loads had small primers and some had large primers.. I used HP38/231 powder and Nosler HP's..loaded up the same.. The small primers had a much softer recoil than the large primers, which leads me to believe that all the powder may not have been ignited with the small primers.... Am I right in my assumption?? The accuracy was about the same, but I would worry that I may not be able to make major in a match..I don't have a chrono, so I don't know what the power rating was on the small primer laods.. Dirty Rod
I've heard people say that about loads that are at the top end of the range. I use low to midrange loads and have not seen a difference in powder, accuracy, or velocity.
Steve RA
For .45 I use Federal small primer cases, Tula KVB-223 small rifle primers and Clays and have never noticed any unburned powder residue. One nice thing about using the SRPs is you can use them in a lot of calibers and only have to have one primer size and brand. (Large rifle is obviously an exception to this)
glockdude1
If the small primers give me less recoil, should I assume that the power factor will be lower?
Steve RA
A chrono is your friend !!! I don't know.
retarmyaviator
Loading with Bullseye there was no difference on the chrono between large and small primers. No difference in the residue left on the brass.
