Well tonights dryfire practice didn't go as well as I wanted, but its all part of the game. I had some good draws and bad draws. Good movement in stage setups and not good movement. These are the practices that I feed off of. If I was perfect all the time there would be no reason to continue, that is the glory of this sport. There are always ways to improve. I have big goals for this season and this is what pushes me. My team is here to correct my mistakes and help me improve. There is never a time when I practice that I can't find something to improve on. My mistakes during matches are not failures, but just things that I need to improve on.

To anyone who wants to give up when practice and competition don't go as planned, PLEASE PLEASE stay with it. You are capable if you strive to always become better.

Well shot the Silver Creek Match over last weekend, practice is paying off but still need improvement. My dryfire and live fire have started to come together to fill in the gap between two. At the match I was able to put the skills of speed and getting my hand to my mag faster for my reload. That all seemed to payoff. I need to start understanding the relationship between close targets and far target and which sight picture is needed. Looking through the sights is becoming more difficult then I thought it would. I have come to notice that live fire really pays off with learning the relationship with targets and sight picture. Also, my visualization has improved greatly since nationals last year along with everything else. As I sat with my team last night and watched videos of now and then, you can really compare the two. In just four months of practice and dryfire the improvement is amazing. When you have a set practice schedule and routine that you follow, you can do anything.

As a side note, I would like to touch on the fact of this forum and somethings on it. I would like everyone to know that in this sport their are good and bad images that can be given off by the way you portray yourself. I am strong and willing to put the work and time into improving in a sport that love. I come on this forum to give advice and see if I can contribute to and be willing to take some advice also. As I read through some posts, it seems that we have gone off the topic of shooting and we should be aware of this. I would love for this forum to be fun and helpful, not a place to talk about personal issues that have nothing to do with the sport itself or a ground for whose advise is better. Lets all be part of a game and get our practicing and shooting.

PS : There are videos of this past weekend below:

Someone just pointed something out to me. See the attached list and pay special attention to number 9. Kinda neat to be on a national list. Now I know that I am only .13% away from being on the bottom of the next list but it stills feels good.

Had a great new and difficult workout tonight. This weekend we are attending our teammate Micah Barcelo's wedding but

in true shooter form we are also shooting a match on Sunday. Looks like fun.

Today was a very fun and gratifying match. I have been practicing and working out at least 4 or 5 days a week and I feel finally, it's starting to show.

Just 6 months ago I was looking for my placement by how many places I was above last, well sometimes I was last. Today I finished 9 from the bottom, 11 place Limited and won my class. This is my best placement and tomorrow I shoot another match so let's see what happens. Sometimes it can be frustrating to work and not notice improvement. I have been improving all along I know but it's so hard to gauge it.

My best stuff was I shot fast when I needed or slow when I needed. I know what your are thinking but my coach calls it, seeing a appropriate sight picture and I get it. I guess the proper thing is I did it. It always almost a dance between having too much of a sight picture and not enough of one. The first one is better :goof:

Here is some video.

Its fun to watch these videos as the improvement is significant with each update, shooting on the move was pretty cool though it looked like you almost tripped on those fault lines toward the end. At this rate you're going to be in great shape for Nationals.

Had another great match on sunday. We had five stages and the weather held off till we were finished. I have videos below.

As for today, I had a great workout with my team mates. We have really started to increase the movement and basic drills into our workout. This is far more training that I have done for any other sport in my life. I have become really become determined to increase all of my skills before all of the majors that I will be shooting in the next few weeks. My practice schedule has kept me focused on achieving all of my goals this season and moving forward in this sport.

I am very busy preparing for my matches, but I am also making sure that I keep a positive mindset through this process. I have put all of my extra time into this sport and it can be grueling at times but I keep my mind in the game. I will achieve everything I want as long as I do the work and the work is paying off.

Thanks so much for the input. I have been working on calling my shots on steel. It seems to be one of my demons but I'm working on it. Let me know if you see anything else. Other sets of eyes are always good because we may miss something while training.

On the second video it looks like you were waiting for each popper to fall before moving to the next one. It was more obvious on the right-hand side of the stage.

Your observations are always quite insightful. I'm thinking there is quite a bit of practice acquired confidence that goes into being able to move on from a popper before it has fallen. I think what I'm trying to say is, knowing your going to hit it before you pull the trigger. Does that make sense?

I don't think its before the trigger is pressed...

As the shot breaks, the sights lift up from the target, where they lifted off 'from' is where the bullet went, assuming that the gun is sighted-in correctly. If they lift from the popper then the popper has been hit and its time to move on to the next shot.

So I shot the Ohio state match last weekend and did well. I finished third in my class and I need to just work on my speed again. After the match I noticed that my left wirst and hand were swollen and it was really bothering me. I let it go and thought it was just from reloading because I have the Arkansas sectional this weekend with Jessie. Well I ended up seeing an orthopedist and I found out that my left wrist has a slight fracture and lots of swelling. Well it's not going to slow me down. I will be shooting the match this weekend with a brace and am just going to fight through it. As my fiancé says pain is nothing compared to how it feels to quit. I will let you know how it goes.

No guts, no Glory!

I had all the guts this weekend. We were supposed to shoot Saturday but it was raining like crazy with lightning and thunder so the match was delayed until Sunday, which allowed my wrist one more day to rest. We had to be at the range at 6:30am and shooting started at 7:00. My first stage was rough. The initial shock to my wrist was extremely painful but I decided I was not going to quit. I was going to suck it up and push through all ten stages. My times were slower then usual but my hits were good. By the middle of the match the wrist had completely swelled and was nub ( which I enjoyed thoroughly). I pushed through the match with one no shoot and three mikes. My attitude was keep shooting just get through and I did. I focused on my shooting instead of the pain. By the end of the match, I was just over joyed that I finished. We waited for match results because Ed and Bill had both done very well and had chances of winning their classes. So as match results were posted and announced, it turns out hard work and determination pays off because I ended up taking high lady in limited and I won my class. I was shocked.

So no matter what comes along in your journeys in shooting and what ever happens hard work and determination will over come.

Well I learned a lot today sitting on the sidelines with my bummed wrist. I got to watch how much the people on my team have progressed and what we have all learned. I was able to absorb all of the good and bad during a match instead of just being in match mode all day. I saw a lot of things that I will be working on with in addition to working out and eating right. All of the traveling and time and money spent on the sport should not be wasted on silly things that you can not control. There are things in matches that you can control and things you can't. Have a mag jam or ammo issues are thing that you don't always have control over, but stage planning, your trigger control and your over all involvement in your shoot are things that can be controlled. I learned you need to keep your mind straight and just work through any issues you may have. Having a good match doesn't always mean thing are going to go perfectly but sometimes you just need to roll with it. Watching everything at a match makes you appreciate the sport just that much more. You can always learn whether you are doing the shooting or just on the sidelines. Yes it's not the greatest being on the sideline but I realized I was missing a lot that I never really thought about.

Well I have finally found time to post about what going on in my world. Since I last posted my wrist is healed up and ready to go. I went through a few weeks of strengthening but everything is good now.But on to other things, a few week ago i got a plaque in the mail from the Ohio Championship because I ended up taking third at my first big match of the year which was a surprise to me. It was a fun match with lots of great people.

The past weekend I shot the Indiana sectional and won my class. I Had a great time at the match and shot with some really good people. The weather was crappy but we got through it. I have had some major improvements over the last few weeks and can't wait to get to Area 8.

Below are some of my stages from the Indiana Match!

So I haven't posted in awhile and I'm sure a lot of you know that my nationals did not go as planned. I was quite bummed for awhile but I got over it and now its time to focus on 2014. I have decided to expand my shooting into the open world and see how I do. I still love to shoot limited and will be going back but with the layout of next years nationals I have decided to focus on open. My Shooting has gotten much better throughout the last year and this year it will only get better. I thought I would share a video of one of my first open matches. It will be at the bottom.

As far as next year I can't wait. I will keep you informed as I grow throughout this sport.
