1chota
I have a M&P 15-22. I would like to have the barrel threaded to take a sure-fire brake or buy a barrel that is threaded. Anyone have a smith that does that or a source for a barrel? i looked on Brownell's and GB, no joy.

SlowShooter
I guess I'm a little confused... If you clamp the barrel in a vice and unscrew the Flash Hider you will see the 1/2 x 28 threads underneath there. Unless you live in a restricted state and have a "ban-compliant" model ? heckofagator
He also could have one of the original models (like me) with no flash hider. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
swhiteh3
Even now many versions of the M&P 15-22 come with the barrel unthreaded. Be VERY careful when removing the barrel or when installing or removing any threaded muzzle device. It does not really come out in the normal way, and putting any torque on the barrel relative to the upper during the process can spin the barrel in the upper receiver, rounding off the keys that orient the barrel.... SlowShooter
^ yes. Be careful you hold/clamp the _Barrel_ directly, not putting any torque on the upper or the handguard.
DaveTimm
Any competent gunsmith can do this. The barrel is easily removed, just not like a standard AR. You need a pipe looking wrench which now several companies make. Before they were available I made my own wrench out of a 3/4" pipe. Then my local smith threaded it for me.
