158 RN in 9mm

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any luck loading 158gr LRNs in 9mm. I've read threads where people have loaded 160gr into 9mm with good results and I have a big pile of 158gr RNs laying around. If i load them to an OAL of 1.16 with around 3gr of N320 and swage them down with a lee factory crimp die, is this a dangerous load?

I was only able to make them pass the chamber test with an OAL of 1.05. That's pretty short and makes me afraid of overpressure.

I've loaded 158 Berry's with 3.2 to 3.4 of S1000 at regular length ~1.150 with no problems. I used them for silencers.

That's not 1.15" is it? Or 1.115"?

I wouldn't be worried about 1.115", but I would be

concerned re: 1.05".

May not be a problem, but

I'd do some precise measuring with a set of calipers

and see how much room you have left in the bottom

of the case at 1.05" - see if there's room for the

powder.

And, keep the load at the bottom of the range -

probably try it with a slower powder first.

Yeah, that is 1.05". The .38 round nosers that I have don't have a very pronounced taper so they have to be seated very short to clear the rifling.

Trade your "big pile" with somebody that can use them for their intended purpose?

Load the bullet so it will fit in your chamber and feed reliably. Then go low and start your charge, watching for pressure signs. See what you come up with?

I have a bunch of 160s waiting for me to load them up. I've heard they shoot really nice in 9mm.
